TCA Products Adding Value On JUCO Scene
Following a one-year stay at the Orlando-based Conrad School, which adopted a post-graduate system last season, several unsigned prospects are authoring a memorable impact on the JUCO scene.
While the program was best known for churning out 6-foot-10 Auburn forward Austin Wiley as well as University of Arkansas Little Rock guard Cameron Corcoran, several prized and under the radar recruits have enhanced their Division-I stock with a stop at the JUCO level.
David Sloan, John Logan
Once considered a favorite for Kentucky’s Mr. Basketball before transferring to TCA in Orlando, Sloan is proving the high-level offers he once carried were no fluke.
The 6-foot guard, who showed major promise with a 28-point performance against Wesleyan Christian and a 32 performance against DeAndre Ayton-led Hillcrest Prep last season, is averaging 13.5 points and 8.9 assists per game. He’s emerged into one of the country’s leaders in assists per game.
With a 55 percent field goal percentage and eight games of 10 assists or more, expect Sloan to pile up offers at the same furious pace he once did while at Taylor County High School in Kentucky.
Anfernee King, Olney Central
A bolt-quick guard who loves to engineer the running game, King improved tremendously during his lone year at Conrad. He became more of an all around offensive threat, shooting the ball with more confidence and creating for himself with a growing one-on-one game.
Though his played sparingly, King showed promise with a 12-point performance during an 81-79 victory over West Kentucky Tech.
Niko Oliver, Ridgewater
Local Orlando product entering TCA with plenty of upside. A well-built 6-foot-4 guard with elevation on his shot and in-your-jersey defense, the Nike South Beach product is thriving on the JUCO scene.
Oliver is averaging 20 points during a recent three-game span. On the season, Oliver is averaging 18 points and 6.3 rebounds while shooting 50 percent from the field and beyond the arc.
Nico Johnson, Vincennes
Though he’s been nursing an injury, Johnson will seize the opportunity to play for one of the best JUCO programs in the country, a perennial heavy hitter, at Vincennes. The 6-foot guard thrives with open court finishing and scoring around the rim. While he’s become more adept with a feathery pull-up jumper, Johnson is a slasher by trade. Rebounds the ball exceptionally well for a guard, where his bouncy and high-rising athleticism pays dividends.
