Midseason Cobb POY Nominees Part 2
Here a few kids who made the Midseason Cobb County, GA player of the year list for public schools only.
2018 CG Josh Strong – Kennesaw Mountain High School
What a season this kid is having. After having a good season last year, the Kennesaw Mountain combo guard is having himself a great senior season this year. Josh is second behind 2018 C EJ Montgomery in scoring in Cobb County at 21.5 points per game. Like McCreary, Strong is also the reason Kennesaw is 9-2 at the halfway point of the season. His speed on the court is his main impact and is also one of the few guards that can lock in defensively. Josh can also shoot the three ball very well.
2018 CG Savvon Delgado – Kell High School
Savvon Delgado is one of the best shooters in Cobb County. He is a lethal threat from behind the arc and like 2018 PG Jahwan Smith, he is one the senior leaders for his Longhorn squad. Savvon will try to get his Kell squad back on track after having a decent run in the Tournament of Champions at Wheeler where Kell went 1-2.
2018 WG Jackson Baylark – High School
Jackson is no doubt one of the reasons Pope is 9-4 at the halfway point of the season. He has recently received the most valuable player award at the Westminster Holiday Tournament where the Greyhounds took home the title and went a calmly 3-0. Baylark is averaging about 16 points per game this season. He is an athletic wing and has real good bounce that helps him protect the paint on defense. Jackson has already had two games where he finished with 8 blocks and 6 blocks.
2018 WG Mervin James – Pebblebrook High School
In my opinion, this might be the toughest kid in the county. Mervin is a 6’6 versatile wing who can really knock down the mid range jumper and he is not afraid of the physical play in the paint. Since the lost of 2019 F Jared Jones, who transferred to McEachern, Mervin now plays the 5 for Pebblebrook where he is a mismatch problem for other opponents. His best game of the season maybe his 32 point performance against Campbell or his 26 point and 11 rebound performance in the Tournament of Champions championship, where Pebblebrook took the title. James is no doubt one of the leaders for this seasons Pebblebrook squad, who many doubted after losing Collin Sexton.
2019 PG Terrell Burden – Campbell High School
This kid impressed me when he went up against Wheeler on Dec. 15th. Terrell Burden is a 5’9 point guard who is not afraid of the contact when driving to the paint. Burden can also hit the three point shot if left open and if he has enough space to pull up. Terrell has mad his way on the midseason player of the year list. He is averaging a team high 17 points per game and has very high IQ on defense. Terrell is averaging at least 3 steals per game. JUCO coaches might want to take a look at this kid, he brings the toughness and energey to his Campbell squad.
