TOC All-Tournament Team
The Tournament of Champions is always the best tournament in the state of Oklahoma. This year it featured a lot of the states premier players. Midwest City was able to hold off Carl Albert to win the TOC. See what players made the TOC Prep Hoops All-Tournament Team!
MVP Mason Harrell 2018 Carl Albert Point Guard
Harrell takes home MVP honors of the TOC despite Carl Albert not winning the tournament. It is a rare honor to be MVP without winning the tournament but Harrell made it impossible to pick anyone else with the way he played at the TOC. He dominated every facet of the game scoring at all three levels. At Point Guard Harrell elevates the players around him. He is still getting questions about his height for the next level. I challenge a college coach in need of a Point Guard at the Low Major Division I level to come watch Harrell and tell me he could not succeed at the next level. The kid is a winner.
First Team
Derrick Walter Jr. 2018 Midwest City Wing (Signed to Oklahoma Christian)
Walter Jr. was heavily pursued by Oklahoma Christian this summer for good reason. He has a lot of intangibles you cannot teach. This weekend Walter Jr. played really well, but the leadership he showed was the biggest reason why he is a first-team selection. The Bombers looked to Walter Jr. for leadership, toughness, defense, and scoring. He delivered each game helping the Bombers become TOC Champions for the second time in three years.
JD Ray 2019 Midwest City Point Guard
Ray was a scoring machine for the Bombers at Point Guard. He is a little guy that most underestimate the first time they watch him. The crafty moves of Ray with the ball help him to find the holes in the defense. Ray was excellent driving the ball to the basket. He also shot the ball well from behind the arc. Midwest City needed a player to step up offensively and Ray has done just that. He is quickly becoming a well-known name in Class 6A. NCAA Division II programs it is time to get Ray on your radar.
Trey Hopkins 2018 Carl Albert Wing (Signed to Seattle)
The clutch gene is a question about athletes that surfaces in sports. There is no need to even ask if Hopkins has the clutch gene, the kid has it. He had a good weekend making the most of his opportunities with the basketball. Hopkins made tough shots this weekend. The bigger the moment the bigger shot Hopkins hit. Seattle got a gamer with a killer shooting stroke and freak athleticism.
Kalib Boone 2019 Tulsa Memorial Post
Boone is quickly rising up the ranks in the 2019 Class. He is a big that is not very well known nationally but I think could surface this summer with a good showing. He is athletic with a tall lean build at 6’8. He rebounded and ran the floor extremely well for the Chargers. Something we saw that was an improvement over the last year in his game was the mid-range jumper. Boone has all the tools and he is starting to figure it out. Lookout Oklahoma, Boone is tough to stop.
Robert Briley 2018 Wright City Wing (Committed to Seminole State for Baseball)
Briley is a tough Wing at 6’3 that plays more like a Forward in a lot of respects. He has a good strong build mixed in with some sneaky athleticism. The most impressive stat for Briley this weekend was his performance on the boards. On offense, Briley scored the majority of his points getting to the basket. He has committed to Seminole State for Baseball otherwise he would be a player at the NCAA Division II level.
