Top Performers: Miami, North Miami
Richard Charles, North Miami Senior High
Charles is the type of high-level 3-point assailant who can get hot in a hurry. The Class of 2019 guard has the shooting acumen necessary in taking a few consecutive 3-pointers and turning them into a pure snipe show that breaks open a game.
A thorough, 43-point eruption (he added five assists) in North Miami Beach’s 107-72 pummelling of Gulliver Prep at the Junior Orange Bowl Classic in Miami was emblematic of the potent and game-changing touch Charles possesses when feeling it.
He went off for 11 3-pointers, scorching the nets as North Miami amassed the highest ever point total of this tournament.
Victor Hart, North Miami Senior High
The 6-foot-6, Class of 2018 small forward is known for his smooth game and explosive, above the rim finishing. In this particular performance, however, it was his workmanlike grit which enabled NMHS to pummel Gulliver Prep in a sheer offensive outburst.
Hart scored 22 points and pulled down 12 rebounds as North Miami Beach closed out the year and simultaneously broke into 2018 on a high note.
Nate Harvey, Coral Springs Charter
Harvey was the facilitator of a souped-up attack. He operated Coral Springs Charter’s high-flying offense with gusto and proficiency, en route to a 64-54 win over Mariner during the Adidas Holiday Slam.
Harvey shot a scintillating 7-for-9 from the field, connecting on 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. Applying sound defensive pressure to mirror the frenetic pace Coral Springs Charter employs throughout 94 feet, Harvey added three steals.
Brandon Delgado, LaSalle
Working under Miami grassroots hoops pioneer and player development ace Derrick DeLaGrana has enabled Delgado to get bigger and develop a more consistent stroke from downtown. The 6-foot Class of 2018 guard proved this while averaging 14.7 points and earning a spot on the Adidas Holiday Slam all-tournament team. Delgado bagged 10 3-pointers in tournament action, connecting on 10-for-18 from 3-point territory.
Michael Bothwell, Cornerstone Christian Academy
A heady and tactical left-handed guard who has developed a savvy as an off the dribble scorer, Bothwell averaged 27.5 points per game throughout the Adidas Holiday Slam. Bothwell possesses an advanced ability to finish through contact and get into the lane and score.
