Recruiting Report: Matthew Hill (2018)
For two seasons now, Colo-Nesco 6-foot-5 power forward Matthew Hill has been methodically torching his opponents, and local colleges are taking notice.
There’s a batch of Division III, NAIA and JuCo programs that are recruiting Hill, and after taking some visits and seeing some campuses, he’s starting to form his own opinions of those programs.
“I’ve talked with a couple coaches, Ellsworth came and watched me, and I went and visited Central, and I’ve visited Dordt. I’ve been in contact with Simpson also,” said Hill.
“I’ve been watching games and checking them out, and I think playing NAIA or D3 would be good. If I could get some D2 interest that’d be great, too.”
Hill is averaging 21.3 points per game this season, predominantly as a post for the Royals. He says scoring more from the outside is something he’d like to incorporate into his skill-set.
“I just like getting the ball and driving a lot, and if they sag off on me then I’ll shoot, but I like the mid-range and driving. And also I like to post up, and use my post-moves,” said Hill.
“I’d like to get better at using the 3-point shot, and just shoot it more. I think that’d really help my game.”
His Royals are off to a 6-2 start, Hill has been a big reason why. He assessed his team’s play, and laid out the goals for the rest for the season.
“I think we’ve been playing pretty good. We’ve had some good tests, but I think we need to limit the turnovers. But overall we’ve been working together well, and that’s helped us win some key games,” said Hill.
“I just want to make it to state, and I’d like to get to 1,000 career points, that’d be cool. But I just really want to go out and get as much done as I can to help to team win.”
