Prospect Spotlight: DaeShawn Wayne (2019)
Class of 2019 point guard DaeShawn Wayne is a quick and shifty 6’0 point guard that will be playing with the Northwest Panthers on the circuit. He is a lead guard that likes to dish the rock. Pesky on ball defender that has good leadership qualities. Good D2 prospect. He still needs to improve on his long-range shooting, which will come in time and with the right program he can really flourish into becoming a very good player.. He has a serious handle which enables him to blow by his defender and can finish with both hands at the rim.
As a sophomore at Lakes high school he took on a bigger role this year as a lead guard who was looked upon to set the offense up and run a solid pick and roll game.
“It put me in a bigger spotlight giving me more of an opportunity especially with the other guys giving me so much confidence. My teammates trusted me with the ball in my hands more and made me feel a lot more comfortable. I think I have improved as a ball handler and making better decisions.”
Last season in a game against Stadium high school DaeShawn’s stat line was 36pts, 10rebs, 5ast, 4stls, 1blk. Those stats definitely show this young man can fill up the stat sheets.
I got a chance to catch up with the young ball player. Here is what he had to say about last season.
“The past season went pretty good. We had a new coach and our team made the best out of it and made it to playoffs and was top 6 in the league.”
What would you consider the most elite parts of your game?
“My strengths is my speed, and my ability to make everyone around me better. Also I know how to put the ball in the hole with my outside shot.”
What are some off-season improvements you would like to make and how has your recruitment been going?
“I look to improve my vertical, my shot, defense, and finishing around the rim. Recruitment right now has been very low and very minimal. I Don’t really have any schools looking at me hard right now. I’m currently playing for team Bradley, which is a nationally known program and should bring some more recruitment my way as long as I show that I can play at the next level.”
