PHI Daily Dish: Two #1s Go Down on a Friday Full of Upsets
Yesterday’s Top Results:
A huge night in Indiana High School basketball as we saw quite a few really good games and a few upsets. Two #1s fell in a crazy night of high school basketball that we recap for you below.
4A #5 Warren Central 47, 4A #1 Ben Davis 39
It was anyone’s game and in this one Warren Central finally proved that they can hang with the big boys. I think a lot of people have been iffy to say that Warren Central is a good basketball team but after tonight we see that they are for real. A great win over the former #1 team in the state.
2A #2 Frankton 65, 2A #1 Oak Hill 57
In a game that was closer than the final score, these teams battled it out all night long. A great small school atmosphere that say the home team knock off their rivals. Barring a loss tomorrow, Frankton is poised to be heralded the best 2A team in the state.
Speedway 45, 2A #16 Scecina 44
In a big shocker, Speedway got their first win of the year against a school that should have outplayed them in every aspect. Scecina has only played three games this year and are underperforming but are a state title contender. This loss is going to be a huge learning point during this season and this could be the upset of the night.
North Harrison 52, 3A #4 Brownstown Central 51 OT
Another upset as previously undefeated Brownstown Central goes down. North Harrison was 3-2 coming in but BC had been playing really well thus far in the season. The win is a marquee win for North Harrison and we will see if they can keep the momentum up.
1A #3 Tindley 69, 4A #11 Lawrence North 60
A bit of an odd result here. Tindley has been outperforming expectations that entire season after losing a lot of scoring, Lawrence North has been underperforming this year with a loss to Lawrence Central and they had to escape against Culver. This is a team that should be really, really good. A great win for Tindley. Lawrence North’s first loss to a 1A team since class basketball was instituted in 1997.

Today’s Top Games:
After last night’s great performances, I’m not sure that there is much that can top it. There are a few really solid matchups but there are also a lot of tough games for some top teams. We preview the best below.
Brownsburg vs. Ben Davis
Ben Davis is going to try and prevent back to back losses and I am not so sure that they can. Brownsburg is really good and they are looking to prove themselves. What better way than to go into Ben Davis and come out with a victory? Two of the top Indy area teams will be on full display.
Culver Academy vs. Evansville Bosse
Culver is continuing to schedule tough teams this year and you can get much tougher than Bosse. This is a potential State matchup and will give us a good sense of where both teams are at. Bosse has to have the edge here though as it’s on their home floor, although they won’t be as fortunate in March.
New Albany vs. Carmel
One of the last times to see Romeo Langford in Indianapolis will be tonight at Carmel. This is an interesting matchup because both of these teams primarily live and die on the deep ball. Romeo should be able to take over the game but the real matchup will down low with John Michael-Mulloy.
