Recruiting Report: Tyler Williams (2018)
Brush’s 6’6” forward Tyler Williams (2018) is showing senior leadership by doing the little things.
“Now I’m more of an energy guy. I’m bringing a toughness. I rebound everything. I try to finish everything. I clean up everything. I hustle and I get all the loose balls, all the 50-50 balls. Just bring energy to the team,” Williams said.
Given his physicality, it’s no wonder that he added football interest in his first season on the gridiron this fall.
“I talked to a couple MAC schools,” Williams said, who played defensive end for Brush. He added, “I don’t think I could give up basketball.”
At the moment, Williams has three scholarship offers as a basketball prospect from Urbana, Lourdes, and West Virginia State.
He plans on taking a visit to Urbana next month, which will be his first to any of these three schools.
Additionally, Brush head coach Chet Mason told Prep Hoops that Williams has interest from Edinsboro, Lake Erie, and Notre Dame (OH).
Williams will wait until after the season before committing anywhere; but, he was able to give us insight into how he will decide
“My main thing is what the coaches are like, and also the players,” Williams said.
He currently carries a 2.3 GPA and scored a 20 on the ACT.
To compliment his toughness, Williams is looking to expand his game before next year. Specifically, he wants to bring the ball up more consistently and find a better feel of when to shoot the pull-up.
Brush plays at Riverside tonight, where they’ll look to improve to 5-0. Williams said the key to their early season success has taken place behind the scenes.
“It’s not about the game, it’s really about how we prepare and practice. Throughout the weeks we have a lot of great practices,” Williams said.
Brush will once again be without 6’9” sophomore center John Hugley, meaning Williams will play primarily near the basket. When Hugley returns later in the season, scouts will have an opportunity to see Williams operate in a different space on the floor.
