PrepHoopsNC Recruiting Update
UNC-Asheville recruit Deacon Heath scored 31 points last night for Avery County High School and surpassed the 1,000 career point total. Heath is one of the top returning guards this season in Western North Carolina and chose to walk-on at UNC-Asheville and play for Nick McDevitt.
Mt. Zion Christian Academy guard Elbert Ellis received an offer from Charleston Southern last night. The 2019 guard is one of the top scorers in the state and has been getting interest from Temple and has had Head Coach Fran Dunphy in to watch him workout.
Unsigned senior Malik Johnson of Fayeteville 71st High School is one of the top recruits that still has not decided where he will play college basketball. The 6-foot-1 guard had had Cincinnatti, VCU and Western Carolina in to see him and has offers from the latter two. He is projected as a mid-major to high/major recruit. He has misses a majority of the seasosn with a wrist injury.
The Jairus Hamilton recruiting sweepstakes has hit a wall. Villanova was the latest to show interest in the ultra-athletic forward who scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for Cannon School in a upset win over #1 Greensboro Day in Greensboro. Maryland has offered, Boston College has offered, NC State, North Carolina and Duke still remain in the hunt with the schools from the north.
Another unsigned big man that will see his recruitment pick up towards spring is Caleb Mauldin over at West Rowan High School. Coached by the legendary Mike Gurley, Mauldin is a strecth four big man that can shoot the basketball with range. He is 6-foot-8 and should be able to find a spot on a Division One roster come spring. He has had VMI and a host of Division Two schools in to see him recently.
