St. Bernard has slowly, but assuredly, crept back into the upper echelon of Southern California basketball—and the roster is littered with underclassmen. Malcolm Bray and Brandon Chatman are the lone seniors while juniors Mook Harris, Romelle Mansel, sophomore Nick Bowden, and freshman Tyler Powell lead the underclassmen.
“Yes, we’re definitely excited about this season with Mook, Brandon, Nick, Malcolm, Tyler, myself and others.
“We have a young squad, but we’re coming together,” explains Mansel.
Mansel is one of the better post prospects in the Southern California region. He is blessed with a 6-foot-9ish Division 1 frame with long arms and broad shoulders and he’s a good athlete. His skills inside-and-out are evolving and there is no question the upside is evident.
Mansel has an inside-out skill set at 6-foot-9“I feel my post work is coming together like finishing in the paint as well as rim protection on the other end of the floor. My help side defense is improving as well,” noted Mansel.
Like most young bigs there is always room for improvement. In order for his game to go to another level his assertiveness at both ends (sprinting the floor and rebounding out of his area) would take his game to another level.
“I definitely need to improve my perimeter skills, especially in the mid-range area and my handles and 3-point touch need work as well,” explains Mansel.
Although he is just scratching the surface of his potential there are a host of schools that are contacting Mansel including Cal State Fullerton (offer), Long Beach State, Montana, K-State, Rice, UC Santa Barbara, and Pepperdine.
