Recruiting Report: Jace Fischer (2018)
Sturgis has bigger expectations this year because of returning talent like 5-foot-10 guard Jace Fischer. PHD talked to Jace today about this up coming season and how he prepared for it.
“I played for the South Dakota Heat this summer and trained at the Sturgis Community Center,” Jace said.
Jace was a key part of the Heat team that won 14 of their 25 games improving greatly from the past year. That is part of the experience, along with Jace’s multiple years on varsity, that should lead to a memorable final season.
Last winter as a junior Jace, Connor Crane, and Dawson Geuke played key roles in Sturgis earning their way into the state rankings but now they expect more.
“My junior year was my best statistically but as a team we need to do better and get to state,” Fischer explained. “My main focus has been being more of a leader for my team because I know we have all the guys to go pretty far into the state tournament. We have a couple great seniors returning and juniors.”
Sturgis is one of two teams that hasn’t played a game yet this year but will be tomorrow night against Belle Fourche.
“I think we are all ready to give it our all. As an individual I want to break my school’s steals record. The team goal has got to be a state championship.”
Fischer is pretty sure on where he wants to go to college and compete in athletics.
“I’ve kinda been set on Black Hills State but others have emailed me and sent me letters,” Jace said.
