Marquee Matchups: Week 3 in Northwest Ohio
We’re entering week three in the Ohio high school basketball season. All that means is another strong slate of games around the state, so let’s get into it with this week’s version of Marquee Matchups.
Dec. 12: Toledo St. Francis at Lima Senior
Lima Senior returns home after a blowout victory on the road at Middletown. This will be their first conference game after a 3-0 start. Meanwhile, St. Francis is 2-1 to start the year. These are presumably the second and third best teams in the Three Rivers Athletic Conference, both having the potential to battle with St. John’s.
Lima Senior is one of the deepest and most athletic groups in the conference, with players like senior point guard BJ Miller and junior wing Jaleel King leading the way. St. Francis is likely a year away from being at their best, as juniors Jackson Harris and Jakiel Wells headline their lineup.
Dec. 15: Anthony Wayne at Sylvania Southview
These two teams appear to be the class of the Northern Lakes League. Anthony Wayne, 2-1, is seeking a signature win while Southview, 3-0, has already knocked off St. Francis and Waite to start their year.
Senior guard Ryan Fries has been hot to start the season for Southview, putting up over 20 points in consecutive games. They’ll have to deal with Anthony Wayne’s huge cast of guards, led by senior Andrew Murphy and junior Max Denman. Other prospects to watch include Southview’s Tyson King and Anthony Wayne’s Alex Ruhe and Kyle Ray.
Dec. 15: Rogers at Waite
Yet another conference battle happening in Northwest Ohio this week, this time in the Toledo City League. We can expect to see this game again at the end of the season in the City League Championship.
This crosstown matchup features three players who will likely earn All Conference honors in Christian Smith (Rogers), Carl Banks (Waite), and Keyshawn Leach (Waite).
