Sleepy Thompson Scouting Report
ALEXANDRIA, VA — The 62nd Annual Sleepy Thompson Invitational Tournament returned to St. Stephens & St. Agnes, and we were able to catch four games on Thursday. Here is our full scouting report from our time in the gym.
DOMENICK BAILEY | 6’0 175 G | ST. SSSAS ’19
Bailey is a crafty combo guard that can play in either role as the go-to scorer or as a distributor that sets others up. He can get in the lane and has good feel, and can also shoot the pull up off the pick-and-roll.
JUSTIN BROWN | 5’8 G | BENEDICTINE ’18
Quick and crafty point guard with nice touch from all three levels. Good free throw shooter. Demonstrates a high basketball IQ
SARDAAR CALHOUN | 6’5 G | BLUE RIDGE ’18
Has great size and athleticism, and has a nice mix of skills as he can put it on the floor, deliver good passes and make open shots. He’s an unselfish player, too much as times, but he already has a good skill set and things you can’t teach.
GABRIEL DICKERSON | 6’0 160 G | ATLANTIC SHORES ’18
Explosive guard that rebounds out of area and gets into the lane with relative ease. Gets great elevation on his jumper. Graceful athlete who thrives in transition, and doesn’t mind contact at the rim.
DIMITRI GEORGIADIS | 6’8 C | BENEDICTINE ’18
Sturdily built forward that isn’t the greatest athlete, but displays solid fundamentals. Good defensive rebounder.
DRAGON HORNATKO | 5’11 G | GLENELG COUNTRY ’18
Skilled point guard that can fill it up from the perimeter, especially from the catch. Has nice touch from mid range as well.
MYLES JONES | 6’3 170 G | BLUE RIDGE ’18
Jones’ ability to shoot it from deep is his biggest asset, but he’s also got some toughness to him that most shooters don’t have. He’ll attack the paint and attack the body of bigs to get to the line, he’ll step in and take a charge and he’s quick offense off the bench if that’s the way he’s utilized. Needs to work on athleticism and ball handling.
DARIUS MCGHEE | 5’9 G | BLUE RIDGE ’18
Diminutive scoring guard that can fill it up in a hurry. Plays with a relentless motor. Loves to defend. Fearless
CAIDON OWEN | 6’4 165 G | GLENELG COUNTRY ’18
Sharpshooter. Lefty. Moves well off the ball. Has good size at 6’4. Will rebound.
ZACH PFAFFENBERGER | 6’8 215 F | EPISCOPAL ’18
Pfaffenberger is a strong and physical big man that can throw his weight around, and he can score with both his back to the basket and in face up situations.
ARMANDO BACOT | 6’9 220 F | TRINITY EPISCOPAL ’18
Bacot has trimmed up and is running the floor better, and he has hands that catch and block everything. He finishes well with both hands and is starting to finish everything above the rim, and he has the added bonus of a soft jumper out to 18 and the ability to find shooters on kick outs and cutters for layups.
CHRISTIAN DEPOLLAR | 6’5 F | SSSAS ’19
Solid glue guy. Rebounds well from his position. Displays very good fundamentals. Moves well without the ball. Must improve ability to consistently break down defenders off the dribble, but can make shots from all over the floor.
XAVIER JOHNSON | 5’11 165 G | EPISCOPAL ’19
Has has deep range off the bounce meaning defenses have to pick him up early. He’s a smart kid that can read the defense, and he’s a crafty finisher in traffic as well. The biggest thing he needs to do is fill out and get more athletic as he grows into his body.
CHASE PAAR | 6’9 230 | GLENELG COUNTRY ’19
Has good size and touch at 6’9. Sets monsters screens using his sturdily built frame. Has good hands, and runs the floor hard.
JAHDON ROBINSON | 6’5 G | BENEDICTINE ’19
Robinson is a big wing with great athleticism that plays well in transition. Finishes above the rim, can guard multiple positions and rebounds well for his size. He’s capable of putting it on the floor and getting to the rim in straight line drives.
ASA SHANNON | 6’6 G | EPISCOPAL ’19
Bouncy left handed wing that can shoot the three and defend multiple positions. Plays with a consistently high motor.
CHARLES THOMPSON | 6’7 185 F | SSSAS ’19
He has a solid and strong frame, and he’s quick off his feet to protect the paint or finish above the rim. At his rapid rate of improvement, expect a big junior season from Thompson moving forward.
JARED WHITE | 6’6 190 F | SSSAS ’19
White is an inside out scorer with good size at 6’7. He excels in the middle areas of the floor, and has a good back to the basket game and soft hands.
JAMAL BARNES | 6’4 170 G | SSSAS ’20
Long and versatile wing. Plays extremely hard. Emotional leader, and good defender. Has room to fill out physically. Sneaky and strong athlete.
TRISTAN BOUNDS | 6’7 C | EPISCOPAL ’20
Well built 6’7 big man with a nice inside out game. Has strong hands. Runs the floor. Sets good screens. Good passer. Available for dump offs.
NOAH CHARLES | 5’10 G | GLENELG COUNTRY ’20
High IQ point guard with incredible intangibles. Works extremely hard defensively. Gets others involved, but can mix it up and score from all over the floor.
TYMU CHENERY | 6’6 G | EPISCOPAL ’20
Smooth 6’6 wing with a versatile skill set. Efficient three point shooter from the catch. Can rebound out of area and start the break.
HENRY COLEMAN | 6’7 F | TRINITY EPISCOPAL ’20
Coleman attacks the glass hard, can play and guard multiple positions and he’s an athletic finisher in transition. He’s working on improving his jump shot, and sometimes in games he can settle too much for it, but when he’s using his motor on both ends he’s a big impact guy.
XAVIER LIPSCOMB | 6’1 G | SSSAS ’20
Stocky and crafty downhill type guard. Absorbs contact in the lane, and finishes well with either hand. Can shoot the 3. Has great shot selection.
ANDRE SCREEN | 6’7 C | SSSAS ’20
Stocky 6’7 post with soft hands that runs the floor and rebounds. Screen has a chance to be very god as his body continues to develop.
BURKE SMITH | 6’8 200 F | TRINITY EPISCOPAL ’20
When set and off the catch, Smith can bury it from the corner or the wing like he’s a guard. He’s stiff right now as he’s still growing into his body, but if he can get bigger, meaner and more nimble moving forward he’ll have a chance to be a very good prospect.
DARIUS JOHNSON | 6’0 G | EPISCOPAL ’21
Skilled point guard that can score it well from all three levels. Defends on and off the ball with intelligence and aggression.
COLE PAAR | 6’8 F | GLENELG COUNTRY ’21
Has a much more slender frame than his older brother Cole. Works hard to get position inside and rebound. Displays nice touch around the basket.
BRYCE STEELE | 6’3 G | EPISCOPAL ’21
Stocky wing with a nice overall skill set. Good defender that anticipates well off the ball. High level football athlete.
