Recruiting Report: Joe Bryson (2018)
Six-foot-8 big Joe Bryson of Rock Canyon is hearing from both basketball and football college programs. Bryson talked with Prep Hoops today.
“At this point, I’ve been in contact with some college programs including Lake Forest, Chadron State, Colorado College, and just recently went on a visit to Concordia university in Nebraska. I’ve also talked a little bit with some coaches for football.”
Several of the college programs looking at Bryson watched him play this summer at events and camps with both his 17U and his high school team. Also during that time Bryson spent a lot of sessions working out and gaining skills.
“In the off-season I played with both the Colorado Cardinals and our high school team travelling a lot,” Bryson said. “I really improved on my overall skills and my perimeter shot.
“I lifted a ton this summer with football and am really seeing the results on the court. My real focus for improvement over the off-season was just getting stronger and becoming more of an offensive threat. Especially by being more physical and looking to get more points in the paint.”
Rock Canyon is of course a talented program with a healthy senior class that includes Bryson up front and high level guys like Tyson Gilbert and Sam Masten.
“Having a lot of success and going to the final four my junior year made me a much better player and gave me the experience needed to go even further this year,” Joe said.
“We expect big things from this season with five starting seniors and a solid bench. Having some of the best guards in the state and so much returning talent and experience on the team, we are setting ourselves to a high standard and will add to the culture we are building at canyon.”
Team success would be reaching the ultimate goal. Getting back to where they were last year and this time bringing home the top prize.
“Personally, I’m setting myself with goals to be more of an offensive threat and improve on my rebounding both on offense and defense,” Bryson said. “I also want to become more of a vocal leader and help out my teammates anyway I can.
“For our team goals, we hope to win our leauge again and make a strong presence in the playoffs. But mostly, we want nothing more than to hold the Gold Ball on March 5th.”
