Recruiting Report: Tyler Hauglie (2018)
Guard Tyler Hauglie was a part of the eight man Bismarck Century rotation a year ago handling steadily and scoring a couple times a game. He’s one of the key returning Patriots for this winter’s season.
“This off season I really decided not to play AAU, but focus on what I need to improve on as a player and teammate,” Tyler told PHD.
“I did a lot of training around building my ball handling skills, creating shots and opportunities to score, and being a consistent and reliable shooter.
“I look at my junior year as a learning year. I took a lot from my seniors last year, and realized what it really takes to play at the varsity level.”
Century went 20-4 last year and returns key pieces like himself, Josh Sipes, Kade Amundson, and others. Tyler will have increased playmaking responsibility on his shoulders this year so preparing for that role was his off-season focus.
“Like I said before, my main focuses were my ball handling, creating opportunities to score, and becoming a constant shooter,” Tyler said. “I think that we have a lot of talent in our program as a whole. We have a lot of guys returning from last year that really know how to play.
“We don’t expect much. We take everything day by day, and try to get better every single day so we can be in the best possible position by tournament time.”
Hauglie is putting in the time to reach important goals. He was nearly a 40 percent three-point shooter last year with a two to one assist to turnover ratio. He scored a couple times a game and now plans to do even more this winter with winning and a college future as his goals.
“One of my goals this winter is to get looked at by any college to play basketball,” Hauglie stated. “I haven’t had any reach out to me yet, but I hope by the end of the season I have some options.
“As a team, we want to get in that same position that we were at the end of the season last year. We also take pride in our defense, so we would like to lead the region in total defense as well.”
