Scouting Report: Northeastern vs. Covenant Christian
A pair of solid 2A teams met on Tuesday night as Covenant Christian played host to Northeastern. It was a close battle with both teams not backing down. Covenant Christian was looking to start 2-0 for the first time in four years and Northeastern was looking to avoid a 0-2 start for the first time since 2005; they haven’t won less than 22 games in the last four years and a loss would put a damper in that streak.
Northeastern won the game on a buzzer-beater that gave them a little momentum going into the weekend. Here is the game winner:

The final score was 47-44 and you can find the complete stats here:
Northeastern
Freeman Brou – 2018 – 6’8 PF – 6 points, 5 rebounds,
I didn’t think that Brou played as well as he could have in this game. With a huge size advantage, he could have controlled the post but he didn’t really do that. He played well but I thought was too passive. He likes to catch the ball in the midrange and drive, but I thought that he settled a bit much as he was 2-of-8 from the floor.
Jalen Hillard – 2019 – 5’8 PG – 3 points, 2 assists
Hillard didn’t look great, but he also didn’t look bad. It seemed like in this one he was going to play more of the distributor and was supposed to run the offense. He did that pretty well and never looked to shoot the ball. After scoring 25 points in his last game, I was looking for him to score but he worked more as the lead guard in this one.
Jordan Stolle – 2020 – 6’4 F – 14 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists
I’m just not sure what to think of Stolle quite yet. He’s a good shooter from deep but settles too much and needs to learn to drive to the rim. He was 1-of-8 from deep but 7-of-8 from the free throw line. He isn’t very quick but he can still get around guys if he wanted to.
Kolden Vanlandingham – 2021 – 5’10 PG – 1 assist
Vanlandingham caught my eye as I saw the fourth quarter of the JV game and then he came in and played a few minutes of varsity. He has good court vision and great handles. He didn’t shoot it much but has a good shot for a freshman. He’s an interesting guy to watch down the road.
Covenant Christian
Jordan Webb – 2018 – 6′ PG – 11 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals
Webb is best when he is aggressive to the rim. With Brou in the middle he didn’t really drive as much as he should have but when he did it was really effective. He struggled from deep going 1-of-7 and didn’t really show me much offense. He took care of the ball and had eight rebounds though showing me that he can rebound the ball well. He’s one of those do-it-all guys who will fill up the stat sheet.
Josiah Grant – 2018 – 6′ SG – 17 points, 5 rebounds
Grant was really the only guy in the game that could shoot the ball consistently as he was 7-for-10 from the field. He’s a smaller guy that can really get into the lane with the ball and has good court vision finding the open guys. For a thin guard, he crashed the boards really hard in this one.
Brennan Moran – 2020 – 5’10 SG – 10 points, 3 rebounds
Moran really stood out as one of the better sophomores in this game. He was everywhere on the court it seemed. Moran flew around and pulled in some critical boards while getting out in transition to receive the pass as he had seven of his points in transition.
