Here is a look at some of the St. Louis area Player of the Year candidates
Jericole Hellems 6’7″ Chaminade ’18: The North Carolina State signee averaged 21 points and seven rebounds in leading the Red Devils to a Final Four berth in the Class 5 state tournament.
Courtney Ramey 6’4″ Webster Groves ’18: The top-ranked player in the Prep Hoops Missouri Class of ’18 will be out until January as he heals from a wrist injury. As a junior, Ramey averaged 19.9 points, 8.1 rebounds and 5.9 assists in leading the Statesmen to the Class 5 state championship.
Carte’are Gordon 6’8″ Webster Groves ’18: The St. Louis University signee averaged 19.1 points, 8.4 rebounds and shot a robust 69 percent from the field for the Class 5 state champions. Gordon is one of the dominant big men in the state.
Torrence Watson 6’5″ Whitfield ’18: The University of Missouri signee averaged 28 points a game as a junior in leading the Warriors to a runner-up finish in the Class 3 state tournament.
Mario McKinney 6’1″ Vashon ’19: The super sub on Vashon’s back to back Class 4 state championship teams in 2016 and 2017, McKinney is ready to play a leading role for a young Wolverines team. Scored 29 points in Vashon’s season-opening win against Charleston.
Shaun Williams 6’3″ Hazelwood Central ’18: The Kansas State signee averaged 18.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and three assists a game in leading the Hawks to a 17-win season.
Deandre Campbell 6’0″ Parkway Central ’18: The stocky senior guard averaged 21 points a game in leading the Colts to a Final Four berth in the Class 4 state playoffs
