Standouts: Champaign Central vs MacArthur
The third place game at the Decatur Turkey Tourney featured Champaign Central and hometown Decatur MacArthur. Champaign Central prevailed by a final of 70-57. See what prospects made an impact in Standouts: Champaign Central vs Decatur MacArthur.
SG Tim Finke (Champaign Central – 2018)
Finke is a skilled offensive player, but it was his defense that impressed me most in this game. He guarded MacArthur star Armon Brummett most of the game and did a great job. Used his length to contest shots and make it tough on him. Moved better that we have seen in the past laterally on the defensive end. Swatted multiple shots on the interior. Offensively he scored in a variety of ways. Opened up with a turnaround fade away out of the post. Mixed in some runners and tough takes to the hoop. Also ran the floor hard getting dunks in transition. Had a big slam off an out of bounds play. Finke went for 19 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 blocks. He is a steal for Grand Canyon! Top 5 prospect in the 2018 class.
SF Khailieo Terry (Champaign Central – 2021)
One of my favorite things to do early every season is see some of the hyped freshman and get an early evaluation of them. Terry stands at 6’4” with long arms and wiry strength. He is a FREAK SHOW athlete! Insane jumper off the floor. Displayed that with his rebounding and quick second jump. Snatched rebounds at their highest point and kept balls alive. He had several huge dunks in this game on dump offs. Most of his points came on put backs or plays that were created for him. Did have one slash from the wing. No doubt he is a big time athlete with major upside as a prospect. Position and level long term will depend on if he grows and how his skill develops in the next four years. Shot blocking is also a major strength for him. He is so explosive off the floor and looked like he was spiking a volleyball! Terry finished with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 blocks.
SG A’Kieon Gill (Champaign Central – 2018)
Gill is a 6’3” wing that was active on the defensive end of the floor. Moves well laterally and creates turnovers. Offensively he handles it well getting to the rim. Can hit threes off the catch on occasion. Passed the ball as well too. He had 18 points. Projects as a small college prospect.
SG Jonte Coleman (Champaign Central – 2018)
Coleman is a 6’3” shooting guard that is a perimeter threat shooting the basketball. Clean looking stroke from three. He went for 9 points. Small college player.
SG Armon Brummett (Decatur MacArthur – 2018)
Brummett is a powerful 6’3” shooting guard that has high octane scoring potential. He was without his brother and running mate Amir Brummett and he had to carry the load. Made a few plays and did a better job than we had seen in the past passing it. His brother is more the point guard, but he showed more facilitating skills than we had seen in the past. He made some shots offensively with a step back three and another triple off the catch being the standouts. Overall he just couldn’t get it going. The D2 prospect had 9 points.
SG Zach Briggs (Decatur MacArthur – 2018)
Briggs is an underappreciated player. He played with Jets-Ramey United over the summer in a complementary role and gets to show a little more of what he can do on his high school team. The angular two guard is a sound perimeter shooter especially off the catch. Can score occasionally on the inside as well. This is a small college prospect that will play within a team concept at the next level. Briggs had 9 points.
SG Keenan Ingram (Decatur MacArthur – 2018)
Ingram stands at 6’1” and is best playing off the ball. He has a strong body. Tough taking it to the hoop off the bounce. Gets to the rim and makes plays in transition. He had 12 points.
