The holiday tournament season kicks off this weekend and their are some big match-ups going on around the Carolinas’.
Kansas signee Devon DotsonThe Charlotte Hoops Challenge will feature some of the top players and teams from around the region playing at Butler High School on Friday and Saturday.
Providence Day with Kansas signee Devon Dotson, Santa Clara signee Trey Wertz and stock riser Isaac Suffren in a head to head matchup with Cox Mill High School. The other Chargers’ feature 2019 Wendell Moore, PrepHoopNC’s #1 ranked player and UNC signee Rechon Black.
The NCBCA Coaches vs Cancer Shootout Tournament is being held at UNC-Asheville and the key game will be Christ School taking on Hoke County High School. The Greenies feature #3 2019 Jalen Lecque, big man Brandon Stone who has offers from South Carolina, Pitt and St. Joe’s among others. 2020 Norance Berry who was recently offered by Tennessee and 2020 big man Justice Ajogbor who has picked up 5 high-major Division One offers in the past two months.
Hoke County High School features UNC-Pembroke signee Silas Love and scoring guard Dakari Johnson. Christ School Head Coach Scott Willard recently stepped down to deal with a family medical issue and assistant coach Depalteau has taken over the reigns. Christ School went 0-2 last weekend at The PrepHoops Battle of the Carolinas, losing to defending NCISAA champion Greensboro Day and SCISAA reigning champion Porter Gaud School based out of Charleston, South Carolina. Other teams scheduled to play in the WNC Classic is Alexander Central, Maiden, Weddington, East Rutherford, Triton, Northern Nash, Westover and Owen.
One of the favorites in the NCHSAA 4-A division is Greensboro Smith HS, who is playing in the Washington Tournament of Champions held in Chicago. Smith features one of the top 2020 wings in the class with Silas Mason, 2020 point guard Camren Hayes, Fayetteville State signee Jalen Gamble, Fayetteville State signee Jordan Crutchfield, Charlotte signee Isaiah Bigelow and Brown signee Jailyn Gainey. Smith won it’s first game of the tournament last night at Bigelow and Hayes scored 14 points in the win.
