Iowa’s All-Class Top 50 (35-31)
As the season draws near, we’re going to roll out a ten part series counting down the 50 best players in Iowa, regardless of class. There are no frosh on the list, and some sophomores are sprinkled in. Look for Iowa’s 2019 class to make a very strong showing in the rankings; man is that the junior class stacked. And, of course, there will be plenty of seniors to highlight. We might be biased, but we feel like the state of Iowa is egregiously underrated, and as a result, under-recruited year-in and year-out; this top 50 list is a strong group of players, and plainly showcases just how much talent we have here in the Hawkeye State.
Agueck Deng (2019)
6’7 F, Valley
35
Like so many in the Valley system, Deng has had to wait his turn to get his time to shine, and that might happen this winter. He’s big and bouncy, and uses that explosiveness and great length to get up and smash. We were seeing him dunk over opponents as early as his 15U season with Kingdom Hoop Elite, and he steps out to hit the 3-ball, too. Deng is poised for a breakout season with a Valley team that will certainly contend for a state title.
Nate Mohr (2018)
6’1 G, Glenwood
34
A skilled sharpshooter, this combo-guard recently inked his national letter of intent to play at D2 Wayne State. Now, aided by a group of very talented guys, he’s got a realistic chance at leading his Rams to not only a a state tourney berth, but a state title; look for him to shred nets all season long in the process.
Austin Alexander (2018)
6’6 G, Atlantic
33
The Northwestern (IA) commit is 6’6 and plays point guard, that alone makes him an absolute match-up nightmare. But the level at which he plays the position is stunning. He’s an adept ball-handler, and shoots the lights out. After averaging 11.9 points, 4.0 assists and 2.8 rebounds per game last year as second-fiddle to Garrett Franken, you can expect those numbers to spike dramatically this winter.
Dylan Jones (2019)
6’7 SF, Waukee
32
Like No. 35 Agueck Deng, Jones has had to wait his turn a bit before being unleashed; and also like Deng, he’s a 6’7 stretch-four who can get up and slam, or step out and hit the 3-ball. Lucky for basketball fans in Central Iowa, the two guys play in the same division of the CIML, and will link up at least twice per year over the next two seasons.
Noah Hart (2019)
6’3 PG, Waukee
31
With great size, a high basketball IQ, a pure jumper and some serious passing skills, there’s no reason to believe that this Iowa Barnstormer product won’t have a breakout season for Waukee. He’ll take the reins this season for the Warriors, which will almost certainly be one of 4A’s best squads. And after years of growing, both his game and his height, Hart is now ready to blow up.
