CONFERENCE PREVIEW: City League
CONFERENCE PREVIEW: City League
One year after Wichita Heights advanced to the 5A state championships in Topeka, Kan., the City League figures to once again feature a host of talented teams and players.
Among the teams poised for a breakout season is Wichita Southeast as the Golden Buffalo return a host of talented players, led by POY candidate Israel Barnes. Four of the teams other top players were either freshmen or sophomores a year ago.
Leading the way will be Heights, a team that features an elite backcourt with K’Vonte Baker and Devin Davis, two players who play well off each other. Bakes brings elite speed and quickness to the court and terrific court vision. He is among the state’s premier playmakers and passers. Davis, meanwhile, is a standout perimeter shooter who has the ability to get hot from behind the 3-point arc.
Wichita North appears poised to take a step forward in the league after playing .500 ball a year ago. The Redskins returns its three of its leading four leading scorers, including 2018 guard Kace Vongsadka, who averaged 18 points and 4.0 rebounds last season, and 6’6 2018 forward Peyton Hatter, who averaged 10 points and five rebounds last season.
