2017 Hankamp’s Turkey Day Award
Anyone that has watched football on Thanksgiving Day has seen The Madden Turkey Leg Award. Today I’ll name two players as the 2017 Turkey Day Award Winners. These two players epitomize what high school basketball should be all about. Fittingly, we as a state are thankful for the opportunity to watch these two players perform.
RASHAD WILLIAMS (2018, G, Wayne Memorial):
Nobody in Michigan has outworked the Cleveland State commit. If any kid growing up has dreams of playing Division 1 college basketball, they should study Rashad Williams. Almost everyday there are videos of him in the gym before most high school kids are awake. Holiday? He’s probably in the gym. At night? He has probably been in the gym. We can’t forget to mention, Williams does it all with class and grace. Williams worked so hard over his high school career that he may have become the top shooter in Michigan.
David DeJulius (2018, PG, East English Village Prep):
The University of Michigan commit is a player the entire state of Michigan can be proud of. DeJulius can do it all, and he does it well. He may be the most efficient player in the state, as turnovers and miscues are a rarity in his game. He’s as smart as they come on a high school basketball court. DeJulius is the type of young man that EVERYBODY cheers for, and he is respected by teammates and opponents. He just knows how to win and finds a way for everyone on the court to be successful in their roles.
Rashad Williams and David DeJulius are great representatives for the state of Michigan both on and off the basketball court. That makes them perfect choices for the 2017 Hankamp’s Turkey Day Award.
