5 Takeaways: Utah County Invite
The basketball season is finally upon us. Games finally started this week with some of those games taking place at the Utah County Invite. There were a number of worthwhile things to takeaway from the Utah Country Invite. Thus, here is our list of 5 Takeaways from the Utah County Invite.
5 Takeaways: Utah County Invite
1. Truman Brown
American Fork is projected to be one of the top teams in 6A. However, Truman Brown had a different idea in mind as he nearly dropped 30 while leading Layton to a win over American Fork. Isaac Johnson was relatively quite offensively with only 12 points. With that said, this was a huge upset early in the season and one that shows that Layton should not be slept on. They are solid and Brown will look to lead them.
2. Salem Hills
Rarely does a team get praised after a loss. Especially after they let the other team’s point guard go off for 25 points. However, Salem Hills showed that they can compete with even the top teams in 6A. James Nelson dropped in 20 as well to keep Salem Hills in the competition with Lone Peak. 4A teams need to beware of Nelson, he is skilled and ready to have another huge season in hopes of bringing Salem Hills a state title.
3. Wasatch Academy is a Step Above
The evolution of Wasatch Academy has been interesting to watch and note. They participated in the Utah County Invite and won two games in convincing fashion. Granted, neither of the teams they played against are state championship contenders for their respective classifications. However, Wasatch has so much talent and weapons that it will be interesting to see them take on the likes of talented Apollo (Arizona), Jordan, Juan Diego, and Davis.
4. Trevon Allfrey is Ready
Copper Hills played two games in two days and Allfrey dropped 20+ point games in both competitions. Anyone who was concerned about whether or not Copper Hills would be in the mix this season is getting their answer: Trevon Allfrey. He will be their go to guy and he looks more than willing to take on that increased role.
5. Lehi will be Competitive
Much like Salem Hills, there is not much to write home to mom about when your team loses, typically. However, Lehi proved what I thought to be correct in their tough fight with Timpview. In the low scoring affair, Lehi demonstrated that they won’t back down from anyone and that they will play solid defense. Further, they will be ready to competitive with anyone left on their schedule at a high level. Lehi will pull off at least one “major” upset this upcoming season.
