Prospect Watch: RayQuawndis Mitchell (2018)
RayQuawndis Mitchell of Blaine is a very interesting player. Mitchell is a 6-foot-4 senior guard/wing who constantly is on the court somewhere.
Mitchell played with both Minnesota Select and Grassroots Sizzle during the 17U season to improve.
“Over the summer I played with Team Sizzle in the Under Arrmor circuit playing against some of the top players while playing with some top players that you guys know,” Mitchell said.
“I was taught new things at the point guard position that I would have never known myself but having great coaches and trainers of the summer helped me a lot.
“After AAU season was over I went to a few states to get some workouts in with different trainers I met over the summer to help me continue to grow as a point guard/shooting guard and as a player made me get stronger and faster to help me get ready to play on the next level.
“With that being said I had a pretty good summer to get ready for this year.”
Byron Binum, Sam Browne, and Mitchell are the three seniors that will lead the Bengals this year. Mitchell wants to play a bigger role as a starter this year so he’s found certain items to focus on.
“My focuses has been on a higher court IQ, getting stronger and more athletic, and just being the best player I can be to reach my goal,” Mitchell said.
“We have a nice squad this year. We have a job for everyone to do and if everyone cooperates as needed we can be a big threat come this spring in state.”
Mitchell is working so he can find success both as an individual and as a team.
“My goals for this high school season is to be in the conversation when anyone talks about “top players” and for my team I want to get a really good record and if not win state get pretty close to doing so.
“I have a ton of goals that I want to accomplish personally when it’s all said and done during this high school season.”
Mitchell played junior varsity as a junior and scored in big numbers. He will play varsity as a senior and then he dreams of playing at the division one level.
“The schools that’s been talking to me is Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (SIUE), Colgate, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, and I’ve talked to Milwaukee once so far,” Mitchell said. “I’m visiting SIUE soon and maybe Northern Iowa.”
Mitchell is dreaming big for his senior year and based on how much we saw him at events he’s putting in a good amount of work.
