10 Best: Marian Catholic vs TF South
Marian Catholic played their second game of the season on their home floor Tuesday night as they took on TF South. They dominated from the beginning with all three of their standout prospects shining at different points in the contest. They won by a final of 81-41. Here we dive into the prospects in the game with our 10 Best: Marian Catholic vs TF South.
MVP
PF Chris White (Marian Catholic – 2019)
White stands at 6’7” with length, strength, and athleticism. We saw flashes out of him last high school season and he made improvements this summer. He knows he is the man inside for the Spartans and has taken that newfound confidence into his junior campaign. White was dominant early in the game. We like the energy he brings along with his athleticism. Quick second jump around the hoop. Got a tip in early and was a beast on the offensive glass early in the contest. White finished through contact all game long converting multiple and-1s. Runs the floor well. Out of the post he showed a step back fadeaway that we haven’t seen out of him before. Moves well laterally in the pick/roll and is a shot blocking presence defensively. Uses length both vertically and laterally on the defensive end. White tallied 16 points, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 steals. This 2019 power forward is a player with low-major potential at the college level.
Best offensive performance
PG Malik Tidwell (Marian Catholic – 2019)
Tidwell is a 5’10” point guard that has a compact body with strength. Built like a running back. He also has the quickness off the bounce which allows him to get in the lane. Early in the game he was looking to dish when he got in the paint. Tidwell is a solid passer, but that is definitely not his forte. He is best scoring at the rim with his strength and body control. Consistently got in the lane where he finished at the rim and got fouled. Also converted a sweet up and under. Usually a plus shooter from three he only hit one on this night. Rebounds very well for his height. Scrappy player that could find his way on the D2 radar next year. Tidwell went for 25 points in the win.
Best defensive performance
F Breion Hill (Marian Catholic – 2019)
Hill is a 6’3” combo forward for Marian Catholic that is more of a post and with his lack of size that will hurt him at the next level, but he can really get after it on the defensive end at the high school level. Couple of monster block shots and uses his range to defend on the perimeter as well. Junk yard dog!
Best passer
PG Ahron Ulis (Marian Catholic – 2020)
Ulis got off to a slow start, but the 6’0” sophomore got it rolling in the second half. Usually a sound perimeter shooter he wasn’t hitting them on this night. Made one pull up mid-range jumper, but other than that they were not falling. Sets up his shot well especially off the bounce however. Ulis got his offense going with his defense. He got after it cutting passing lanes and taking them the other way for scores. Plays well in transition where he can finish at the cup. Quality passer with a good feel for the game at a young age. Didn’t force things that were not there. Ulis had 16 points. Should be on the low-major and mid-major radar.
Best catch and shoot guy
PG Dekwan Turner (TF South – 2019)
Turner was a new player on our radar. The 5’8” point guard showed range on his three point shot. Hit a couple deep threes off the catch. Makes up for lack of height with length. Went end to end on a transition finish. Turner had 11 points. Small college player.
Best guy off the bench
PF Alec Dinwiddie (Marian Catholic – 2018)
Dinwiddie came off the bench and showed he has some small college potential. At 6’5” he has a good frame and length. The post moves well up and down the floor and was efficient in the limited minutes he played. Solid free throw shooter for a big man. Not out of the question he could play at the small college level. 4 points on the night.
Best intangibles
G Josh Smith (Marian Catholic – 2018)
Smith is a wiry 6’0” point guard that pushes the ball in transition. Nice speed in the open floor and can also hit a pull up jumper. Mixed in a couple passes inside. Did the little things well. Small college player.
Best under-the-radar performance
PG Eric Blair (TF South – 2018)
Blair has bounced around high schools and is playing his senior campaign at TF South. The 5’11” point guard is a quality ball handler that consistently got in the lane throughout the contest. Showed body control at the rim and gets to the foul line. Also had a deep pull up three and a quick baseline drive. Went for 10 points. D3/NAIA/JUCO prospect.
SG Nicolas Seaton (TF South – 2018)
Seaton showed potential as a scorer. Strong wing at 6’0” that was in attack mode in spurts. Got to the foul line at a nice clip. Finished with 7 points. D3/NAIA player.
Best glue guy
G Tim Jones (Marian Catholic – 2018)
Jones is a rangy two guard at 6’2” that can hit a mid-range jumper. Flashed potential on the defensive end.
Best player that should be on gridiron
C Landon Denman (TF South – 2019)
Denman is a player that belongs on the football field. At 6’7” he is a load inside with his huge frame and long arms. Would be a quality offensive tackle prospect. From a hoops standpoint he struggled to do much inside. Scored one point.
