Mr. Basketball Candidate: Wendell Moore
The top-ranked player in the class of 2019, Wendell Moore is a candidate for PrepHoopsNC Mr. Basketball. The small-forward is one of the most coveted recruits in the country and has offers from Duke, North Carolina, Kansas and almost every other high-major program in the country. He is ranked by PrepHoops as the 22nd best prospect in the country for the 2019 class.
He opened up the high school season tonight by scoring 24 points for Cox Mill High School as they start the tall task of defending their NCHSAA 3-A state title. He was named the NCBCA Player of the Year last season and will try to repeat in that category as well.
He is long and athletic, can score off the dribble and has worked on knocking down mid-range jump shots that he is now consistently making. He does a good job of reading defenses and making the right play. He is able to play multiple positions on the floor and is a match-up nightmare with his size. Has a great IQ for the game, plays both ends of the floor with good energy and stays out of foul trouble. He is also a great student in the classroom.
He recently cut his list to a “Top 10” including North Carolina, Duke, Florida State, Kansas, Maryland, N.C. State, Ohio State, South Carolina, Washington and Wake Forest. A lot of recruiting experts believe that Moore is a sure fire North Carolina commit, however time will tell what he may decide. Duke is his latest offer, having secured an offer from The Blue Devils in early October. He has publicly announced that he is going to decide by the end of November or the beginning of December. His new teammate at Cox Mill HS is also trying to recruit for the Tar Heels, as Rechon Black is a UNC signee and is pushing his new teammate to join him in Chapel Hill.
