Prospect Spotlight: Tyreek Tatum (2018)
Remember the name Tyreek Tatum. He should be a household name in Michigan high school basketball. There is a distinct possibility that at the end of the year, he may be. Tatum is a 5-11 combo guard for Romulus High School. The senior is one of the better pure athletes in the state. He can handle the ball and shoots well on the catch or off the dribble. Tatum is a straight line player who can finish in traffic. He draws fouls and shoots a high percentage from the line.
Tyreek Tatum is simply excited to be playing basketball. “My best moment in high school basketball is getting to play my last year of it because some people don’t get that chance,” he said. He has been working on his footwork and putting his skills together into one package. Tatum is also trying to become a stronger player by making his strength even stronger. He’s doing this by fine tuning his finish at the rim. Specifically, he wants dunk better in traffic.
Tyreek Tatum sees himself leading a very strong Romulus team this season. He wants to leave a mark and make history as a team. Individually, Tatum wants to play college basketball. He has a lot to offer a program at the next level. A coach looking for an explosive scorer, an athlete, and a leader should watch him play. Tatum is polite, appreciative, and expects greatness. These are all things that will translate to the next level.
Tatum’s aspirations in life are commendable. He wants to give back. “One of my long term goals off the court is to give back to the community to better the people,” he said. Of course, Tyreek Tatum has dreams of the NBA, the Hall of Fame, and making history.
Tyreek Tatum grabbed the attention of some college coaches this spring and summer. He has an uncommon athleticism combined with an understanding of the game that makes him an intriguing prospect. As college coaches see him play, I would expect Tatum’s recruitment to pick up.
