Recruiting Report: Jalen Hill (2018)
2018 guard Jalen Hill arrives at Bishop Snyder just a year after being a court leader for his old squad.
Hill was at Ed White a year ago and stayed despite all the seniors leaving. He took the season in stride and taught the younger players on the team adapt to the varsity level.
“As a result, we did not have a winning year that I planned. Before and after the season, I held a 3.75 G.P.A. as an IB student at Ed White High School. I decided to put my academics first by keeping my grades up,” Hill told Prep Hoops Florida. “However, I learned that year that failure was not an option and I refused not to have a great upcoming senior year and winning record, so I continued training and trying to improve my overall basketball skills as a leader.”
Hil, a 5’11”, 155-pounder says transferring to Bishop Snyder will give him an extra boost to increase his skillset on the court and in the weight room.
“I always had an advantage over players with having great ball handling and shooting skills,” he said. “However, getting stronger by working out with my personal trainer in the weight room has helped me attack the rim more and has given me the extra confidence to do so.”
Right now, Hill has a verbal offer on his table from Wilberforce, an NAIA school. He’s also drawn interest from North Alabama.
This summer, he played with NSB Game Speed Elite. Hill was the starting point guard, as he averaged 18-22 points, 4-6 steals and 10-12 assists per game. He called it a great experience as the team made it to the finals in every tournament it played in.
As for his goals this season, Hill wants to have a double digit average and be the leader of his new team.
“I am very thankful to have great coaches this year and they all played in Division 1 college basketball levels,” he said. “Our coaching staff ensures that we are in the gym in the mornings and afternoons working on our offense and defensive skills.”
Hill will serve as a combo guard who says his strengths are knocking down shots, getting to the rim and finishing, drawing defenders and passing the ball out to his teammates to get them involved.
This is a big season for Hill. He played his part at Ed White but at Bishop Snyder he’s part of a focused bunch that is looking to make a deep state run. Look for him to step his game up.
