Park Tudor was in full control only allowing three points in the first and third quarters and after they put their second string in during the fourth, Lebanon finally was able to score. Ten of Lebanon’s points came after the young guys were put in. Following the game I had five key questions for both teams.
Who’s going to score for Lebanon?
After the departure of Trevor Lakes I wanted to find out who was going to lead the scoring for Lebanon. I thought it would be senior Jaylen Washington and sophomore Carson Burtron, and I still think it will be, but they looked awful tonight. They were a combined 9-28 and scored all but five points for their team. They will have to each put up 20 points a night if they want to win and I’m not sure they can. They are going to need others to step up and tonight I didn’t see anyone that could.
Will Park Tudor’s defense be this good all year?
Park Tudor forced a ton of turnovers via steals and forcing Lebanon to throw the ball away. They like to trap in the corner and put an intense amount of pressure on the guards at the top of the key. Lebanon had no answer for that as they had big trouble handling the ball in the face of pressure. They don’t have the height to match up against teams with height well so they are going to try and pressure the ball all year long.
Will anyone be able to stop Isiah Moore?
The 273rd ranked junior in the nation according to 247 Sports was on fire tonight. He scored 21 points and got to the rim at will. He created a ton of transition opportunities as well after having six steals. Lebanon had no answer for him as he was able to create havoc on both ends of the floor. He will be Park Tudor’s first scoring option this year after they lost two really good senior guards. Moore will be able to showcase his skill this year as the number one option and I don’t think many will stop him.
Will the lack of experience for Lebanon hurt them this year?
Yes. They only return two guys who saw much varsity experience last year and they start a guy who hasn’t played since his freshman year. We can see that Lebanon looked lost on the court and I am not sure it’s going to get much better because of the lack of experience. By the end of the year they could be much better, it’s going to be hard to get worse so that is not out of realm of possibilities. They could win a few games if Burtron and Washington get hot but other than those two, the team is pretty bare.
What are the ceilings for both of these teams?
Park Tudor’s ceiling is much easier to see than Lebanon’s just because Lebanon looked so bad tonight. Park Tudor could do as well as win a sectional championship but I think a best case scenario would be a sectional championship appearance and 13-15 wins. Lebanon’s ceiling is much harder to gauge because they don’t have an identity yet. I would say their ceiling this year is 10 wins and a win in sectionals. Lebanon has a weak schedule so their going to seem on paper much better than reality.
