Beech Blows Out Hendersonville Christian Academy
Eventually Beech High School capsized the visiting Hendersonville Christian Academy Crusaders (HCA) 72-44, but entering the second half it sure took the Buccaneers a long time to right the ship.
The 34-24 halftime score reflected Jayson Brown’s wonderful opening stanza. He scored 11 points early in the game.
Beech Head Coach Kip Brown showed his frustration early second half.
“Act like you wanna play,” said Coach Brown to his team after he yanked the entire five starters.” Despite a 10-point lead he noticed mental lapses from his whole team. He wanted to run a zone defense and for whatever reason the players did not respond accordingly.
At 39-29, late in the third quarter, HCA began to feel hope. Never let an opponent recover hope after you buried them. A.J. Robertson hit an important three-pointer to open up a 13-point lead. He followed that up with a brilliant outlet pass to a streaking Mitchell Sorenson.
Beech scored again enlarging the river into a gulf of 17 points. HCA hung around valiantly, but they were simply outmatched by the deep Beech bunch. The 72-44 final doesn’t quite hint at a few inherent struggles endured by the Bucs.
Beech walked out of the gym and readied for White House Blue Devils, tipping fifteen minutes later.
Opening Half
Jayson Brown (Beech) scored two layups in the first 40 seconds. HCA looked drastically overmatched. Beech implemented a fullcourt press from the jump.
Brown scored his sixth point 90 seconds into the game. He scored his eighth point seconds later.
The score held at 21-9 after the first quarter.
Jake Butler picked up his second foul with 7:35 to play in the first half. George Roberson was blocked from behind. He absorbed 3-second calls on back-to-back plays. Coach Brown yanked him.
Seth Holmes hit four straight free throws and Beech was cruising, up 29-17. He gave a wonderful swatting denial to the defensive movement.
HCA found a late half charge and closed the game to ten points entering the second half.
