10 Best: Christ School vs Spartanburg Day
Basketball season is here. PrepHoopsNC was at Christ School for their match-up against Spartanburg Day on Tuesday. The Greenies were 1-1 entering the game and Spartanburg Day had yet to play a game this season.
MVP: Zion Williamson-The heralded recruit did not disappoint the sold-out crowd at Christ School. The 6-foot-6, 270-pound Williamson had 46 points and 15 rebounds for the game. He is known for his dunking ability and finishes at the rim, which he started out the game with a two-handed baseline flush.
Best Defender: Zion Williamson-He is so athletic and gets so high for blocks that his presence was hard to ignore for Christ School’s offense. He changed shot selection and caused disturbances on what would normally be easy baskets.
Best Post Prospect:Brandon Stone-The big man showed an ability to score off of either shoulder, a soft touch around the rim and the ability to grab rebound and start the break.
Christ School MVP: Jalen Lecque-The 2019 prospect scored 22 points on the night on an array of athletic plays. He knocked down a few three-point baskets and he got to the rim with dunks and easy lay-ins.
Best Young Prospect: Justice Ajogbor-The sophomore continues to show great promise for the future. He is 6-foot-9 and is a skilled rebounder, and shot-blocker. He is able to score on the low-block, uses a soft touch around the rim, has good timing to block shots and is only getting better each time I see him.
Best Shooter: Brad Halvorsen-The brother of Western Carolina University sharpshooter Matt Halvorsen shot lights out against Spartanburg Day. He finished the game with 16 points on a variety of shots. He has the same pure stroke that his brother has and was clutch in making shots that mattered when the game was getting close.
Best NBA Prospect: Zion Williamson-The size at 6-foot-6 and 270 pounds puts Zion in the mold of a Lebron James build and the athleticism is there as well. He jumps out of the gym and is considered by many to be a top 2-3 pick in the NBA Draft for 2019.
Play of the Game: Jalen Lecque of Christ School went on a run to end the first half scoring the ball at will and making big play after big play to push the Christ School lead to double-digits before the half.
Best Guy off the Bench: Ben Craig-The Christ School guards came in and gave the starters valuable rest during key stretches of the game. Craig was strong with the ball and made the crowd ohh and ahh with a crossover and step-back jumper that hit nothing but nylon.
Best Under-the-Radar Prospect: Chandler Lindsey-The Spartanburg Day point guard is a high-rising athletic guard that can finish at the rim. He is quick and knows where to get on the floor. He provided some scoring when Zion Williamson was double-teamed and was getting a lot of the attention.
