Recruiting Report: Nick Janedis (2018)
Six-foot-6 forward Nick Janedis of Rock Canyon has high hopes for his senior year and a list of schools calling on him for college athletics so life is good.
Things weren’t as good a year ago though. Nick suffered an injury early in his junior year that resulted in some regular annoyance for part of the season. Since then Janedis has spent a lot of time focused on skill work.
“My junior year was good, started off rough as I broke my nose the second game of the season, but was able to come back and be a solid role player for Rock Canyon once league play and playoffs began,” Janedis said.
“Over summer I played AAU with the Colorado Cardinals and spent the month of June playing with my high school team. I was also able to work out with a trainer named Mike Evans who is an assistant varsity coach at Rock Canyon and someone who I have worked out with for a few years now.”
What skills did Nick work on, and is continuing to work on? He explained that to us Wednesday.
“My focus of improvement has been improving my three-point shot so it is more consistent, as well as working on my ball handling so I can feel more confident with the ball,” Nick stated.
A team that has Sam Masten, Tyson Gilbert, Blake Williams, Joe Bryson, and Janedis back of course has high expectations.
“At Rock Canyon we have five returning varsity players who all played key roles in our final four run last year. We expect to make it back to the final four, and hopefully further.”
Janedis was a role player coming off the bench last year who made about a third of his threes and did whatever was asked. Expect his numbers to increase but Nick’s mindset will stay the same.
“My individual goals for this season is being able to do whatever my team needs me to do so we can have another successful season,” Nick said. “As a team our ultimate goal is to win state, since we have a solid group with a lot of experience, we think we can achieve that.”
With size, a work ethic, and growing skills Janedis is hearing from several college programs.
“I have been in contact with Trinity University, University of Dallas, Lake Forest College, Illinois Tech, and over the summer I was offered a spot at Colorado College,” Nick told Prep Hoops.
“I have visited both Trinity University and Colorado College and as of right now Trinity is at the top of my list.”
