Prospect Spotlight: Kedarius Stampley (2020)
Right on the border of Louisiana and Mississippi is Natchez High School, where one of the Magnolia State’s best young guards hoops.
Kedarius Stampley is a 6-foot-1 shooting guard that college coaches from both Mississippi and Louisiana might want to take notice of.
“My strengths are that I can attack the basket and get to the goal. I’m really a good scorer, and I can get my teammates open. I’m a good shooter and can knock down shots if you leave me open, and I can create space. And I like to be very active on defense,” said Stampley.
“I need to improve my finishing with my right hand if I want to get on a higher level. And I’m working to improve my 3-point shooting and my ball-handling.”
Stampley played with Mississippi Bulldogs 15U this past spring and summer, and was all set to turn some heads as he embarked on his sophomore season.
But he injured his leg in warmups during a game preseason game against Vicksburg, and he says he’ll be out for a week or two.
When it’s time to return, he’ll be a key young piece to a senior-laden Natchez Bulldog squad.
“I want to to help my teammates out, we have six seniors and I want to help them get to state where we can all get a lot of exposure,” said Stampley. “My goal is to play college ball, and get a free education.”
And after his sophomore season is complete, it’ll be onto an ever-important 16U offseason. Where he says he’s hoping to land with a shoe-sponsored team.
“I’m actually trying to find a different team, so that I can play on the circuit. I talked to Louisiana Elite and asked when their tryout was; I got a friend who plays for them. And then I talked to MBA Hoops,” said Stampley.
“But I don’t really have an official team right now. If I don’t play for a shoe team, then I’ll play with the Bobcats again.”
