Recruiting Report: Westin Reynolds (2018)
Six-foot-4 Powell talent Westin Reynolds is a college basketball prospect that is also one of Tennessee’s top 150 basketball prospects. Prep Hoops spoke with Westin today.
“This summer I played in multiple AAU tournaments around the Southeast to prepare myself mentally and physically for my upcoming senior season,” Reynolds said.
“I paired AAU with weight lifting and playing with my high school team in June at places such as Tennessee Tech and Maryville College.”
Powell is a guard heavy squad that won 22 games a year ago and returns talent like Josh Woods and Cole Frost. Reynolds will have to play up front as the team is short on size but with so much talent back all the team cares about is picking up victories.
“We have eight returning varsity players,” Westin said. “Two of which were starters all year and a few more that played some crucial minutes last year (including myself).
“We are guard heavy this year so playing the post position my role on the team this year will be crucial. We should be the top contenders in our region /district.”
The goal is to pick up a win each night and go from there but Powell has never been to state and they hope to change that.
“Our team goals are to take our season one game at a time,” Reynolds said. “No matter if we’re playing the worst team or the best team in the state all of our focus is on the game that comes next.
“Doing so will put us at the top of our district and region which gives us a good shot to make the first state tournament in school history.
“My main focus from the end of last season until this season is getting in a better physically. Whether that is being stronger in the post or being faster running the break that will certainly help me out as a player and also help my team.”
Schools are calling Westin regularly for his ability on the baseball diamond.
“I have had multiple coaches contact me with interest to play for their program,” Reynolds said. “Schools such as Union College and Lee University have invited me on visits and are working on scholarships for me currently.
“Other schools that have shown interest in me include Tennessee Wesleyan, Carson-Newman, and Campbellsville University.”
