Siegel Play Day: Smyrna-Macon County
Siegel Play Day cast a light on numerous basketball teams. The auxiliary gym hosted Smyrna Bulldogs versus Macon County Tigers. These are some scout notes from the matchup.
Smyrna starting guard Tyler Lansden (2020) takes basketball very seriously, whereas senior Tae Brady barely cared. Brady kept asking a family member for a Reese’s. This continued for more than three game minutes, while he was on the court.
Brady is a senior. He has done this before and it was not a regular season game. Still, Lansden emanates a much more emotionally invested attitude. The sophomore plays with a killer instinct that would be inspiring for teammates if he were considered the team’s emotional beacon.
Maybe the soul of the team will veer more towards Lansden’s intensity than Brady’s admittedly small-sample blase approach.
In his defense, Tae Brady is a disruptive basketball player. He can have an impact on the game for sure. Brady plays with really quick hands and any average or below average guard will struggle to maintain composure in Brady’s presence.
Smyrna wing Xavier Carter (2020) is a decent catch-and-shoot shooter. Carter’s pinnacle might wait another year, but there are some underlying skills to his game.

Smyrna’s style of play was so scrambled and devoid of cohesion. Though the team has some talent, Smyrna played Saturday like a YMCA pickup team. There was no intention to feed the post. Most of the team drifted in and out of the game.
One player who does have good court awareness is Jake Hannah. He keeps his head up and is always looking to impact the game.
Tevin Shipp gives the team a hulking, high energy player. He is kind of a Dennis Rodman type. Shipp can leap and gets his hands on everything. Shipp probably could be a bigger part of the offense.
