Another conference whose members are in the lower-level divisions of Ohio, the Miami Valley Conference (MVC) produces a lot of dual-sport talent that is among the best in the Greater Cincinnati area. When looking at this list of the Top Returning Players in the MVC, you will find two young-men on this list who are two of the better gridiron athletes in Cincinnati. Here is our list of the Top Returning Players; Miami Valley Conference.
Sean Ealy 5’10 G- Clark Montessori High School (Class of 2020)
A young man that was featured in September on the Prep Hoops Ohio website, Ealy will be asked to help replace the production Jacob McElfresh took with him to Mt. St. Joseph. Ealy likes to get in the lane for lay-ups and floaters and along with an improving jump shot. Sean will team-up with the next young man on this list to give Clark one of the better backcourts in the MVC.
D’Shawnti Hawkins 5’9 PG/G- Clark Montessori High School (Class of 2019)
Hawkins made a name for him self at the Top 250 Expo where he was named to the 2019 1st Team. The junior combo guard can use his quickness to get in the lane and cause havoc while also possessing a nice mid-range jumper. D’Shawnti will be looked upon as a leader for a young Cougars with a new coach in Wally Vickers.
Brice Hill 6’4 G- Seven Hills High School (#100 Class of 2019)
Anthony Garcia featured this lengthy, versatile performer for Prep Hoops Ohio back in October and for good reason. Hill has the length to guard multiple positions along with a smooth shooting stroke (shot 37% from three in 2016-17). Expect Hill to be among the leading scorers in the conference this season.
Xavier Johnson 6’1 G Summit Country Day High School (Class of 2018)
While it is a foregone conclusion that Johnson will choose football as his sport at the next level, he is still one of the more talented hardwood performers in Cincinnati. A power guard that excels at getting to the rim and being a very good finisher, Johnson is also a solid passer and defender as well. It will be Johnson’s team this season with Summit losing 5 of their top 6 players from last year to graduation.
Michael Nelson 6’0 G Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy (Class of 2018)
Crafty guard who always seems to make the correct basketball play for the Eagles. Michael has the ability to play with or without the ball and is a capable scorer on the offensive end, averaged 10.2ppg on 45% shooting from the field in 2016-17.
Lorenzo Sparks 6’0 G North College Hill High School (#162 Class of 2018)
One of the better athletes in the Cincinnati area, Lorenzo is the leading returning scorer in the conference after averaging 20.7ppg last season. A player who is always in attack mode, Sparks shot over 200 free throws according to the MVC website last season. He can also get it done on the defensive end as well as evident by him averaging 3 steals per game for the 2016-17 season. Look for Sparks and NCH to be among the favorites in the MVC Scarlet.
