Rogers wing Steffan Musoke told NHR at the end of August that Northern State, Minnesota-Duluth, and Minnesota State-Moorhead were the schools he planned to visit and for the most part those are the schools that continue to be after Musoke the hardest.
At the end of September Northern State, Minnesota-Duluth, and the new era of Winona State basketball came by to see him compete. Musoke has taken most of his visits already and the experience has been a positive.
“They went well,” Musoke said. “I enjoyed meeting the coaching staffs and players in person, and comparing everything all of the schools have to offer.
“Northern State, Winona State, Minnesota-Duluth, and Minnesota State-Moorhead are all the schools that who’ve come to see me at school since school started.”
A decision isn’t quite ready to be made but the basketball season is around the corner. With a senior class of Allen Wilson, William Alexander, and Musoke leading the way (although little else back with experience), the Rogers Royals have strong expectations.
“I’m very excited about the upcoming season. Our biggest challenge this year will be our squad’s lack of varsity experience, but I am confident we will be successful in spite of that.”
Musoke put up 12.6 a year ago behind the 13.7 per game of NSIC bound Cole Murray, Wilson scored 11.9 a night, and Alexander produced 8.1 a game.
August 21st Update
Rogers wing Steffan Musoke has the physical tools. He’s got athleticism and the right physique plus the skill set is growing. This winter, Steffan took a strong step forward with the Minnesota Fury.
“This year helped my game mentally,” Steffan stated. “I became more consistent when it came to preparation and game time. My last year of (Grassroots basketball) was awesome.
“I met a ton of new guys in a new program, received a lot of exposure, and really enjoyed it overall.”
The Fury was 41-9 and Steffan was a key part to their success. Next, Musoke wants to have a memorable year with the Rogers Royals.
Musoke is leading returning scorer for the Royals at 13 points per game and he will be joined by Williams Alexander, and Allen Wilson to form an athletic core.
“I’m very excited,” Steffan said about this winter. “Our squad will be pretty young, but we have a lot of talent.
“We should be a top team in our conference this year. I see us as a team to beat in our section, and to do that we just need to play unselfish and hungry and we will accomplish that.”
The Musoke offer list includes Minot State, Missouri Southern State, Minnesota-Duluth, Northern State, and Minnesota State-Moorhead.
“Right now I've been hearing from Northern State, Minnesota-Duluth, Minnesota State-Moorhead, University of Chicago, and Michigan Tech consistently,” Musoke listed.
“I just talked to Azusa Pacific University the other day as well. So far I have plans to officially visit at Northern State, Minnesota-Duluth, and Minnesota State-Moorhead.”
Three visits planned so far.

We talked a lot about Steffan Musoke last summer, a lot last fall, and then he put up 12.6 points per game this winter for Rogers High School.
Musoke joined up with the Minnesota Fury this spring and summer and the result culminated this weekend in his first two scholarship offers. The pair of offers comes from Minnesota State-Moorhead and Northern State.
“Initially the offers gave me motivation to work harder, knowing that the work I had put in had started to pay off,” Steffan told NHR.
“I think Northern State and MSU-Moorhead are great basketball programs. I haven't visited either or anything like that, but have talked to them over the phone and researched them a bit.”
Musoke isn't done grabbing offers and interest. He's at Minnesota-Duluth camp today and has a host of others talking to him.
“Concordia St.-Paul, Winona state, University of Mary, Southwest Minnesota State, University of Sioux Falls, and Bucknell are all showing interest,” Steffan said.
Musoke has a week off from play with the Fury but soon they will be back on the road heading to St. Louis, Sioux Falls, and Las Vegas. The Fury is 27-6 on the season.
“I hope I can earn more scholarships and continue to improve physically, as for the Fury I think we should get a championship win in the Sanford League.”
October 2014 update
Perhaps no one in the 2016 class has recently seen their stock rise more than Steffan Musoke.
“My AAU season went really, really well. I thought that I improved a lot,” he told Northstar Hoops Report.
“I’ve worked on my shot a lot. Shooting, definitely, is a strength. I like to get shots and pull up, and when I get to the rim, I like to finish.” he said. “My weaknesses right now are just that I need to always stay consistent and make good decisions throughout the game.”
Musoke has a great build and frame and the explosiveness to sprint past or outjump defenders. With his physical gifts, he thinks he’d fit best in an uptempo system.
“Transition basketball — that’s how I like to play. I love to run. I can play in the halfcourt, but I really just like to run.”
Steffan is letting his Minnesota Heat coach handle his recruitment for now.
“(College coaches) talk with my coach. I’m just trying to keep my head straight,” he said. “But I know he’s talked with Wisconsin-Green Bay and South Dakota.”
He hasn’t decided on any important factors in his recruitment or even started to sort through schools yet. He’s just focused on improving his game.
“(College) is far out. I’m just playing basketball.”
This fall, Musoke and senior big man Cole Murray will try to improve Rogers’ 9-16 record from last year. Steffan averaged 9.4 points and 2.3 rebounds last year, and has even higher expectations for this year.
“I hope to get at least sixteen points per game this season, and I’d like for our team to get to twenty wins.”
