The Basketball Interview with Matt Todd
Monticello point guard Matt Todd is one of the top unsigned players in the state of Minnesota and Matt talked to Prep Hoops for The Basketball Interview today.
At your school, what is your favorite part or parts about game days in terms of the routine leading up to the game?
MT: My favorite part of game day leading up to the game is sitting watching the first half of junior varsity, listening to music, and getting prepared for the game.
What makes your crowd unique? What is a memorable thing that they’ve done that you will always remember?
MT: Our crowd is unique because of how close they are to the court. You can hear them all game long. My most memorable moment with our crowd was sophomore year at state walking into the Target Center with all of our fans cheering for us.
Who is the toughest player that you have faced in your career?
MT: The toughest player I remember playing was probably Goanar Mar just because of his length and how tough he was to match up with.
Who is your biggest rival and what about them makes the rivalry both heated and memorable?
MT: Our biggest rival is probably Big Lake because they are in our conference and we usually end up playing them in sections too. It’s a good rivalry because there always seems to be big crowds when we play each other.
Who is your favorite basketball player in the world and why?
MT: My favorite player is Damian Lillard because of how clutch he is and how he always wants the ball in big moments.
All basketball players love gear. What brand of gear or type of gear are you partial to?
MT: I used to be a Nike guy all the way but the last couple years I’ve started getting Adidas shoes and their gear has gotten a lot better so it’s kind of a toss up for me.
What is your favorite venue to play basketball in that you’ve played in?
MT: My favorite venue I’ve played in was probably at St. Cloud State because it’s where we won our section championship two years ago and that’s something I’ll always remember.
What court that you haven’t played on would you dream of playing on?
MT: A court that I haven’t played on that I want to play on is a Rucker Park. I think that’s a place most guys think about playing at because of the history of that court.
Explain the relationship varsity players have at your school with youth players?
MT: Our players are very involved with our youth programs. We do camps with them throughout the summer and I know for me there are a lot of kids I see around town that I can recognize from those camps and talk with them.
Best coaching advice you’ve received is what and who was it from?
MT: The best coaching advice I’ve ever gotten was from Dante Rabb a coach throughout middle school and he always said hard work gets rewarded and it’s pretty simple but that’s something that’s always stuck with me.
Who is your basketball influence?
MT: My biggest basketball influence is my older brother I always grew up playing up against him and kids in his grade and he was the first person to really show me the game.
