This five-part series will highlight the best available prospects in Ohio’s 2018 class. We will go position by position, in order for college coaches and scouts to use these articles as a resource heading into the winter months.
These lists start with the top available prospect and go in order from there. Come back each day for a new list!
Caleb McConnell, 6’5”, Spire Institute/C2K Elite
The former Dayton Dunbar combo guard is the best available overall prospect in Ohio. The smooth and efficient prospect has received offers from West Virginia, Wichita State, Wright State, Kent State, Toledo, Ohio, Bethune-Cookman, St. Bonaventure, Buffalo, and Rhode Island.
DeVon Baker, 6’1”, Spire Institute/C2K Elite
The former Dayton Dunbar prospect transferred to Spire for his senior season. The shifty, physical guards holds offers from Miami (OH), Wright State, and Bethune-Cookman.
Kameron Gibson, 6’4”, Walnut Hills/Club Ohio (Pierce)
Gibson is a versatile, skilled guard who has an offer from Maryland Eastern Shore.
Yahel Hill, 5’10”, Cleveland Heights/OH-NOVA (Tillman)
Hill stretches defenses with his jumper and has offers from Robert Akron, Kent State, Toledo, Stony Brook, James Madison, Duquesne, and Robert Morris.
Giovanni Santiago, 6’1”, Cincinnati Hughes/Team One Phenoms
Santiago excels in the open floor and has strong court vision. The Puerto Rican point guard holds offers from Maryland Eastern Shore, Saint Leo, and Indianapolis.
Jerry “Gene” Higgins, 5’8”, Villa Angela-St. Joseph
Fairmont State and Army West Point have offered the reliable point guard. He’s a strong defender with a knack for finishing around the basket in creative ways.
Julius Brown, 5’10”, Westerville North/VCC Ohio Warriors Pro Bound
A defensive irritant with a strong pull-up jumper that holds offers from Anderson, Kentucky State, Ohio Dominican, and Urbana.
Thomas Hickman, 6’2”, Westerville Central/OH-NOVA (Rice)
Hickman is a cerebral player on both sides of the floor. He has shown steady improvement over the past couple of seasons but doesn’t have any scholarship offers.
Alfonse Hale, 5’11”, Maple Heights/TNBA East
Hale can score the ball, especially in the mid-range, but he’s also adding consistency with his playmaking ability for others. He holds an offer from West Virginia State and Salem International.
Corey Baker, 5’11”, Pickerington North/OH-NOVA (Tillman)
Baker transferred into Pickerington North, where he will be the floor general of one of the most talented teams in Ohio. He doesn’t hold any scholarship offers at this time.
