Today, we are going to start diving into some of the best backcourt in the state. It will be broken up into two parts. The first part is up today as we dive into number #1-10.
***For this ranking we tried to go by using the top 2-3 guards for each program. We did take into account the depth of some of the other programs that may have more players but at the same time we realize you will only use 2-3 guards at time on the floor.***
- New Albany: Romeo Langford (Sr.), Sean East (Sr.), Savion Southers (Sr.)
When thinking of the best backcourts in the state, you’re most certainly have to go with the best player state. Romeo Langford is that guy and when you pair with him Sean East and Savion Southers it makes it really difficult to put any other trio ahead of them.
- Lawrence North: Dexter Shouse (Jr.), Jared Hankins (Jr.), Michael Saunders Jr. (So.) —-—J.P. Carroll (Jr.), Tony Perkins (So.)
For Lawrence North the combination the Michael Saunders Junior Jared Hankins and Dexter Shouse, individually there’re all capable of being stand out players and as a group they are going to put up a lot of points and it will be very difficult for teams to defend them as a whole.
- Evansville Bosse: Jaylen Minor (Sr.), Mekhi Lairy (Sr.), Jaylin Chinn (Sr.), ——DeAngelo Ware (Sr.)
No one can deny that this Evansville Bosse team is one of the best in the state. Mekhi Lairy is as big of a gamer as you’re going to find, Minor will give you length and athleticism, and Chinn gives you that security with the ball at all times. A smaller trio but capable of being extremely dynamic.
- Cathedral: Armaan Franklin (Jr.), James Franklin (Jr.), Hunter Jackson (So.)——Justin Hensley (Jr.), Grant Taueg (So.)
With the emergence of Arman Franklin, you now have one of the best athletic scoring guards in the state. Put that together with James Franklin and his offense of ability and Hunter Jackson who makes all the place you need and you have a group that could be the best by this time next year.
- Indianapolis Tindley: Eric Hunter Jr. (Sr.), K.J. Coleman (Sr.), Sincere McMahon (So.)
For three years now Eric Hunter Jr. has proven that he is among the best players in the state. While Tindley loses Hunter White, they still have KJ Coleman and Sincere McMahon and those two should really help provide more offense with another year of development.
- Center Grove: Nate McLain (Sr.), Ben Nicoson (Jr.), Spencer Piercefield (Jr.)——Ben Greller (Jr.)
This summer showed just how good the combination of Piercefield and Nicoson can be. Together they can really shoot the ball and put up a lot of points for play with some pace. Alongside them with Nate McLain you have a guy that just does everything you need him to do. This group should surprise some people this year.
- Brebeuf Jesuit: Myja White (Sr.), Spencer Reist (Jr.), Simon Banks (Jr.)——-Jay Higgins (So.), Adam Howard (Sr.)
In the last year Myja White has become one of the better guards in the state for 2018. Hey gives you a really good scoring presence while still being able to distribute the ball. Spencer Reist is it a great shooter and Simon Banks that physicality in mid range game that you need from your guards
- Carmel: Cole Jenkins (Sr.), Eddie Gill Jr. (Sr.), Luke Heady (Jr.) ——-Jalan Whack (Sr.), Alex Jackson (Sr.)
Caramels backcourt is one of the better shooting groups you’ll find in the state. Cole Jenkins and Luke Heady can really shoot the ball and Eddie Gill has made strides over the last year to be able to compete at the top of his game. They’re also very good at keeping possession of the ball and won’t give anything away.
- McCutcheon: Robert Phinisee (Sr.), Robert Ferrell (So.), Joseph Phinisee (Fr.)
McCutcheon boasts one of the best guards in the state in Robert Phinisee. He is a very balanced score with good scoring ability and now he has a guard beside him in Robert Ferrell who can really shoot the ball. Robert’s Little brother Joseph could also factor in by the end of the year.
- Culver Academies: Ethan Brittain-Watts (Jr.), Trey Galloway (So.)
Culver Academy’s duo of guards with Ethan and Trey have to be on this list matter what. Ethan gives you such a balanced game and Trey’s scoring ability has really picked up in the last year. The only hold back of this group is the lack of depth at this very second but that could change by the end of the year.
