Recruiting Report: Caden Kryz (2018)
A solid approach to becoming a Division III player is to be exceptional at one particular skill. For Mentor’s 6’3” wing/forward Caden Kryz (2018), he’s seeing the truth in that with his specacular shooting ability.
“I got interest from a couple D-III schools: Hiram, Bethany, LaRoche, John Carroll a little bit, and then Geneva just sent me a text the other day … I visited Hiram and Bethany,” Kryz said. Kryz added that the LaRoche staff would like him to visit.
On his visit to Hiram, it became rather clear that Kryz could join their program next fall.
“Hiram was definitely really interested in me and they said they would love to have me. I got accepted into there … As of now, it’s like my only option. So, if I had to pick today then, yes, it’d be Hiram. But, I want to wait until the end of the season,” Kryz said.
Kryz is becoming familiar with coaches and campuses now. He’s noticed that he’s looking for a feel.
“You kind of get that feeling when you walk on the campus and you’re like, ‘Yeah this is the spot for me. This is where I think I belong,’” Kryz said.
Kryz believes that waiting until his senior season concludes will help his recruitment expand.
“I think I could get more [options] with my game changing a bit,” Kryz said.
He’s a high-IQ player who stretches the floor with his shooting. He’s most comfortable defending post players because of his lack of lateral quickness.
The element of his game to look for improvement with is his driving ability.
“I’ve really been working on finishing at the hole. Actually, finishing isn’t actually the problem, just getting there. So, making a move past my defender and getting to the hole,” Kryz said.
Kryz also shoots 300 shots every day to maintain his quick catch-and-shooting ability.
Mentor will open up their season against Olentangy Liberty on December 2. Kryz is confident about the team this season.
“I’ve been playing since freshman year. We have a couple other guys that have been really experienced. So, we know what to expect when we go into the games and we know what to expect that when Coach [Krizancic] tells us to do something, we got to do it,” Kryz said.
He currently carries a 3.0 GPA and scored a 20 on the ACT.
