Sectional Preview: 25
The coming high school season is almost upon us. With that, we are taking a look at each Sectional in the state. Starting with 64 and ending with 1. Today, we are previewing Sectional 25.
Benton Central (6-17) – Lost 1st Rd. Sectional
Benton Central was a young team last year and this year they will be fairly young still. With just two seniors on the team along with three juniors and four sophomores returning they should look to the future. But, with this sectional being down relative to how the teams normally are, Benton may sneak out with a few wins in the postseason.
Crawfordsville (16-8) – Lost 2nd Rd. Sectional
Crawfordsville had a senior laden team and almost shocked Tri-West in the second round. They lose a bunch of really good players to graduation and only return two guys that saw much playing time. Cameron Harris, a senior, will be by far their best player and the guy everyone keys in on. Harris will have to be the guy and this team will go as far as Harris leads them.
Greencastle (8-15) – Lost 1st Rd. Sectional
Greencastle returns their leading scorer from last year in Colin York who scored 18.8 points a game last year. A bunch of seniors left Greencastle including some very key contributors from last year. With a couple returning players from last year they could actually improve this year enough to contend. A down conference will also help their win totals.
Lebanon (14-13) – Lost Sectional Final
Lebanon was much better than their record showed and they could really get points when they were clicking, this year though, they lose their top three scorers. They have a few returning guards who will be really good for them and a couple younger guys who didn’t play much last year. Jaylen Washington and Carson Burtron will command the helm and be one of the best duos in the sectional. They will contend, but I am not sure if they have enough to get over the hump.
North Montgomery (8-15) – Lost 1st Rd. Sectional
Two guys really carried the load for North Montgomery last year. One of those guys are gone and the other is a senior. Other than those two players last year North Montgomery didn’t really have anyone one else on their team score much. They have a bunch of juniors this year so they will be decent this year but won’t contend.
Southmont (11-11) – Lost 1st Rd. Sectional
Southmont has been on the brink of being really good for a long time. This year I think they will break through and win a sectional. They are favored with a lighter sectional than normal and only lost one senior from last season. A group of 10 seniors will look to bring home their first sectional title in 24 years.
Western Boone (7-17) – Lost 2nd Rd. Sectional
Much like Southmont, Western Boone only loses one contributor from the team. This means that they will be much improved than last year especially with the core of juniors they will have. Western Boone will compete this year but may be better suited for next year to win.
Contenders For 2017-18: Greencastle, Lebanon, Southmont, Western Boone
Prediction: Southmont
Player to Watch: Cam Chadd (Southmont)
