The Basketball Interview with John Horgan
Six-foot-3 shooting guard John Horgan led Jamestown in scoring as a junior and today talked with PHD for The Basketball Interview
At your school, what is your favorite part or parts about game days in terms of the routine leading up to the game?
JH: Favorite part of gamedays would be coming to the gym and seeing all the fans out to support our teams.
What makes your crowd unique? What is a memorable thing that they’ve done that you will always remember?
JH: I think the support and rowdiness. They support us no matter how we are playing and can get very loud in close exciting games. I will always remember the play in game at St Marys and the Jamestown crowd gave our team the energy to make a comeback and play until the last second. It was pretty fun.
Who is the toughest player that you have faced in your career?
JH: Toughest player I have played against would have to be Josh Sipes from Century or obviously Aanen Moody last year. Sipes is a big strong and athletic kid who plays smart and does everything well. And Moody could just score from anywhere and was fast and very smart.
Who is your biggest rival and what about them makes the rivalry both heated and memorable?
JH: I would say St Marys would be our biggest rival. They beat us all games last year but playing them in the play in game made it a rivalry. They are always a tough team and play hard all the time. I got some friends from AAU on the team so that also puts in some competition between us.
Who is your favorite basketball player in the world and why?
JH: Favorite basketball player in world would have to be Lebron James. He’s the best in the world and I love watching him. He is a leader and can play anywhere on the floor and I’ve always kind of tried to be like that too. I could always go where a coach wanted me and play it.
What brand of gear or type of gear are you partial to?
JH: I like the shoes. I usually wear Nikes but I’ve had some Adidas shoes in my time. Also tend to wear the leggings. I don’t know why just feels right.
What court that you haven’t played on would you dream of playing on?
JH: The dream court I would want to play on would have to be Cameron Indoor Stadium at Duke.
Explain the relationship varsity players have at your school with youth players?
JH: As varsity players we have a pretty good relationship with youth because we do some camps with them and help teach them
Best coaching advice you’ve received is what and who was it from?
JH: Best coaching advice I’ve got was that you can hit someone with one finger and it wouldn’t hurt. And then two. And then three and then four. But if you hit them with all 5 (like on the court all five players) you can do damage and that was from Luke Anderson.
Who is your basketball influence?
JH: Basketball influence would have to be Lebron James. Like I said before I just try to be like him and play where I’m needed and try play all aspects well.
NBA. Who is your team?
JH: Favorite NBA team would have to be Cavs because of Lebron.
