The Basketball Interview with Calvin Wishart
Georgia Southern committed Calvin Wishart is preparing for another big season at Delano. Today he relaxes to think back on basketball.
At your school, what is your favorite part or parts about game days in terms of the routine leading up to the game?
CW: Waking up on game days I always get the same feeling of excitement no matter who it is we play, I love the buzz around school when people talk about the game and the whole team wearing the jump suits and we all walk around and just give each-other that look in the halls.
What makes your crowd unique? What is a memorable thing that they’ve done that you will always remember?
CW: The student section seems to always go to the hockey games because they’re always scheduled on the same day, but for rivalry games they usually show love. Last year the JV boys did an ESPN table at a few games, they were out biggest supporters and always made the games fun.
Who is the toughest player that you have faced in your career?
CW: Matt Todd always plays his best game against us and I always look forward to playing him, I respect his craftiness and style of play, we’ve grown up playing against each-other and we’ve both just continued to get better and it’s always a good match up.
Who is your biggest rival and what about them makes the rivalry both heated and memorable?
CW: Orono is our biggest rival, it’s been that way always. They’re right down the road from us, and we usually have fun battles and the crowds get real rowdy. My favorite game.
Who is your favorite basketball player in the world and why?
CW: Kyrie is probably my favorite, he’s the most crafty player in the league, right in front of Jamal Crawford. They both can just give you buckets whenever need be.
All basketball players love gear. What brand of gear or type of gear are you partial to?
CW: Adidas is my brand lately for sure, D1 MN always kept us in their gear, and next year at Georgia Southern I’ll be wearing all Adidas
What is your favorite venue to play basketball in that you’ve played in?
CW: I love playing in Halenbeck Hall in St. Cloud, it’s compact and the environment is rowdy when the crowds right over you.
What court that you haven’t played on would you dream of playing on?
CW: Never played in the Barn or Target Center and when that happens, we know we’re playing in the state tournament, which would be a fun way to go or senior year
Explain the relationship varsity players have at your school with youth players?
CW: Our relationship with our youth is really well, our middle school and high school our connected so I always pass kids in the hall and say what up, and doing camps every year we’ve gotten to know the kids real well.
Best coaching advice you’ve received is what and who was it from?
CW: Growing up when my dad coached me, he always told me to be different, so I apply that to a lot of things, not just Basketball.
Who is your basketball influence?
CW: My Basketball influencers were my parents, we would always be at open gym playing one on one or just shooting around.
NBA. Who is your team?
CW: The Wolves are my team for sure, always have been, always will. Finally got some guys to work with, and they picked up one of my favorite players in Jamal
