Cobb County (GA) POY Nominees Part 3
2018 WG Jackson Baylark – Pope High School
This kid Jackson Baylark is a tremoundous athlete. Jackson is a real physical wing who is not afraid to attack the rim and slam it on you. He has 4 years of experince on the varsity level and will be the leader of this Greyhound squad this season. Pope will be looking to win their second consecutive region title.
2019 F Jared Jones – McEachern High School
The former Pebblebrook big man will be making a big impact for his new McEachern squad. Jones recently decommitted from Auburn University. Jared will be joining a McEachern squad who just last season went 29-1. Jones is coming off his foot injury he received late last season. He is a 6’9 forward who will be creating a wall at the rim with 2019 C Babatunde Akingbola. Jones & Akingbola might be the best big man duo in the state.
2018 F Austin Johnson – Wheeler High School
The Tennessee State commit Austin Johnson will be a major contributor for his Wheeler high school squad. He is a versatile forward that will make his impact on the offensive and defensive glass. Second chance points will and can definitely be Wheeler’s advantage this season with Johnson and EJ Montgomery down low.
2019 SG Isaac Martin – Wheeler High School
Martin is one of the best shooters in the county. Isaac is a sniper from behind the ark. Coming off a good summer with Game Elite and picking up a few offers, Isaac will be make his mark this season and trying to show he is one of the best shooting guards in the peach state.
2018 CG DJ Murray – Pebblebrook High School
One of the top under the radar players in state, DJ Murray is looking to have a great senior season for Pebblebrook. Murray ran with Nike South Beach on the Nike EYBL circuit. Murray can create his own shot off the dribble and can really score in transition. He is also locked in on the defensive side of the ball. DJ already has a few offers from D1 schools and is looking forward to earn more.
2019 WG Donovan Grant – Campbell High School
Donovan, who is on the right of Collin Sexton in the picture, made his all region team last season as a sophomore, which features powerhouses Westlake, Wheeler, and Pebblebrook. Donovan will be in control of the offense this season for the Spartans alongside with 2018 Cobb POY Nominee senior Kiya Randolph. Grant has great size and length with guard skills. His real strength is his ability to draw fouls and get to the rim.
2019 C Babetunde Akingbola – McEachern High School
Babetunde Akingbola, or also known as stretch, is arguably the best defensive big man in the state. Babetunde can really be a juggernaut in the paint. His IQ on the court for a big man is fantastic. He also has the length to block shots and force turnovers. With his length, he reminds me of Texas commit Mo Bamba. He is a big piece to McEachern’s success and will continue that this year.
