1A Frontrunners: Indianapolis Tindley
The season is getting closer and closer and we are starting to dive into the rosters and Sectionals that will help to determine who are the top competition for each class. Today, we take a look into 1A and the frontrunners. Today, we breakdown Indianapolis Tindley
Last Year’s Record: 24-5 (State Champion)
Head Coach: Marcel Bonds
Top Returning Players: Eric Hunter Jr. (Sr.), K.J. Coleman (Sr.), Sincere McMahon (So.)
Top Departures: Hunter White (Transfer), Marcus Osborn (Graduate)
New Additions: N/A
Why A Frontrunner: Why a frontrunner? Because Tindley is your defending State Champion. They did it in a way that didn’t totally deplete their roster and now they are sitting in a spot where they will have a legit shot to do it again. The biggest hit is the transfer of Hunter White who will head to Indianapolis Pike. Other than that, they bring back three of their top five scorers. The question marks will be more on the new coaching staff as Robert Wonnell is now at Kokomo. If they can recreate what they had last season, even to just 80%, they should be the favorite in 1A South. They have more offense than pretty much any other team, averaging 72.2 points per game last season.
Outlook: It is expected for Tindley to get back to the State Championship again this year. They have a much tougher path going South than they might have a year ago but their Sectional is pretty easy. The issue comes at the Regional level where they might have to have a duo of Morristown and Bloomfield. 1A South is as competitive as it has been in a few years. Tindley is still the class and they should be able to get back to the Title game but the road might be tougher than it was a year ago.
