Recruiting Report: Bryson Becker (2019)
Six-foot-8 post Bryson Becker of Platte Valley has began picking up interest from division one level schools while moving up the list of top juniors in the state.
Becker played with the Colorado Chaos this 16u year and improved as a powerful finisher around the basket.
“The biggest improvement over the last four months for me has been my explosiveness off the dribble and footwork inside the post,” Becker said. “Both of those skills have been at the top of my improvement list so I’m glad they’re starting to come along.
“The top highlights of my 16u season would be my post moves down in the paint, but like I said my explosiveness created many highlights for me as well.”
Bryson wants to expand his game to become a more versatile player before taking the court this winter as an upperclassmen.
“In terms of hoops my focus will be to develop a stronger/more consistent midrange jump shot, and athletics will be faster explosiveness or faster presence in general,” Becker said.
With 15 points, nine rebounds, and 2.5 blocks a game as a sophomore Becker did his part but now wants to do even more while improving team wide as shooters.
“Our team this year is very small as usual, which we will need to adapt to as we play bigger teams,” Bryson explained. “Our team focus is definitely to develop consistent shooters, that is one issue we’ve had with the guys we have coming back.
“I believe once we get experience with some of our younger guys and develop those essential shooters we will be a dangerous team. We have a chance to do something special this upcoming year, we just have to keep working.”
Division one programs as well as others have began taking notice of the Becker potential.
“At this time, I have heard consistently from Denver University, University of South Dakota, Concordia University, Chadron State University. “DU and USD will attend a few of my workouts here in the next few weeks as well.
“I have not visited any schools yet, but as soon as looks continue to grow I will definitely be visiting some schools.”
Bryce has found a quality player to watch closely and learn from.
“My inside game most closely relates to that of Frank Kaminsky, and I remember watching his games at Wisconsin every chance I could,” Becker said.
“I try to keep my game simple like his, but I try to visualize the court like Jokic as an inside player. My favorite players would have to be either LeBron with his explosiveness or Westbrook with his fearfulness.”
What does Bryson want from his junior year? He explained in a detailed way.
“My goals for the 2017-2018 season is to develop a more consistent jump shot and even further increase my explosiveness, but create the plays needed for the team and utilize our diverse abilities as a unit to bring us far into the season,” Becker finished.
