Recruting Report: Trey Morrill (2018)
Fruita Monument 6-foot-6 senior forward Trey Morrill will make a dunk video and then go pitch a perfect game. It’s how he rolls.
Last year Trey had an ERA of 2.13 with 68 Ks in 46 innings while also hitting close to .370. Just a month before that he was averaging double figures while also collecting 7.5 rebounds and a couple blocks a game.
Morrill of course played a lot of baseball this summer but spent time with his basketball team as well.
“The summer went really good, we got a new coach that the guys really work well with,” Trey told Prep Hoops. “We should be pretty tough this year.”
Morrill wants to leave his senior year with no regrets. He’s approaching his final high school athletic seasons with a different mental approach.
“I want to be mentally prepared for anything that potentially could happen,” Trey said. “I think if you are good mentally you can over come a lot more. Mental toughness is a huge thing with any sport you play.”
Can his Fruita Monument High team get the wins they are hoping for on the court?
“We think we have a lot of talent, young talent,” Trey said. “But we are all hungry to win and will do anything for us to win.
“I feel we can win our league, and maybe get a win or two in the playoff that’s our goal as a team right now. That being said during the winter season we can’t look past anyone and take everything one game at a time.
“Honestly the goal is to win our league first, then out ultimate goal is to win a couple playoff games. I feel like we have the heart on our team and will to win.”
Next summer Trey will be getting ready for his college athletics career. But where?
“I have recently visited Grand Canyon University, I have offers from College of Southern Nevada for baseball, that is where Bryce Harper went, University of Northern Colorado has offered me and I’m going to a visit on the 27-29, and I also have a offer from Northwestern Florida State College,” Morrill stated.
When it comes to basketball who does Trey look at closely? A local hooper.
“This one is kind of a shocker but, Wilson Chandler with the Denver Nuggets,” said Morrill of one of his top basketball influences.
“He shows his love for the game every time he plays, and his loyalty is great with the nuggets. He’s an all around great athlete and great person.”
