They will surprise a lot of people and could make a run at the region title. With that said, Moon Valley is the early favorite at this point as they bring back the best player in the region in Jok Jok.
Region Preview: 4A West Valley
1. Moon Valley
Moon Valley brings back by far the most talent out of any of the teams in this region. Although they will have to deal with inevitable turnover, they have an immediate advantage due to the returning of Jok Jok. The big man has improved offensively and defensively substantially. His length and athleticism alone make him an intriguing prospect at the high school and college level. In addition to Jok Jok, Gabe Lee is one of the top defenders in all of 4A. Further, he is capable of taking on a bigger role within the offense as well. He is a capable shooter with good length and ability to attack the rim. Moon Valley is the clear favorite in the 4A West Valley Region at this point.
2. Sunrise Mountain
Sunrise Mountain had somewhat of a down year. However, they bring back the majority of their team and are well-coached. This group will play hard and extremely physical to make up for the lack of athleticism. This team’s discipline will make them difficult to play against for a number of teams as they will not make mistakes that keep teams in games. As far as key contributors are concerned, Logan Shinaut will lead the way as far as scoring is concerned. He led them in scoring last season due to his versatile style of play. Moreover, Cody Fowler will aid this group as well. This team will be much improved and expect some key role players to increase their roles.
3. Peoria
Peoria could easily finish in a much better spot than number three as they bring back the core of their team and a lot of athleticism. Lahad Adiem will be the primary scorer for the group as he brings back the most varsity experience and plenty of scoring ability. In addition to Adiem, Kaleb Brown has improved greatly and demonstrated it at a number of events this summer. He can score the basketball, has a good basketball IQ, and looks to ready to have a huge season. Lastly, Isaac Monroe Isaac Monroe 5'11" | PG Peoria | 2020 State AZ had a solid freshman year despite his youth. Between these three, Peoria will be much improved and prepared to make a run for the region title in the 4A West Valley Region.
