Preseason All-Conference: West Central
Player of the Year: Isaac Prewitt, Des Moines Christian (2018)
The past two seasons, Des Moines Christian featured Keaton Van Soelen and then Ben Juhl running the show, and Prewitt has been waiting in the wings for his shot to be the man. That time has come, and we think the 6-foot-2 guard will post some prolific and efficient numbers this winter for the Lions.
First Team (2016-17 stats in italics)
Isaac Prewitt, Des Moines Christian (2018) 14.1 PPG, 48 FG%, 45 3FG%, 88 FT%, 3.6 APG, 1.7 SPG
Iowa’s 42nd-ranked 2018, Prewitt was sensational last season as second fiddle to D2 prospect (MN-Crookston) Ben Juhl. Now, he’s ready to fully take the reins for the Lions, and show just how good he can be.
Trent Williamson, Earlham (2019) 19.9 PPG, 54 FG%, 38 3FG%, 2.4 APG, 2.8 SPG, 4.8 RPG
This junior guard overcame a serious leg injury early in his high school career to come of of the state’s best 2019 guards. It was a close call between Williamson and Prewitt for Preseason POTY.
Ben Heeren, Ogden (2019) 13.0 PPG, 48 FG%, 7.7 RPG
A very long and rangy combo-forward, Heeren is going to do a little bit of everything for the Bulldogs this winter. And at 6’5 plus that great length, he could become a hot commodity among local college coaches, too.
Ryan Schmitt, Van Meter (2019) 11.0 PPG, 62 FG%, 1.8 BPG, 6.7 RPG
One part of a dynamic twin tower duo in Van Meter, this 6’9 junior works some soft touch and nice efficiency into offensive game. Look for him to be a linchpin for one of the truly elite teams in 2A.
Grant Johnson, Van Meter (2018) 8.5 PPG, 61 FG%, 60 FG%, 80 FT%, 2.7 APG, 2.8 BPG, 5.1 RPG
The other in that dynamic duo, Johnson will likely lead the conference in blocked shots this season, and will mix it up with an array of offensive moves, too. His assisting is a bit underrated as well, especially for a 6’8 guy.
